This Friday we tried the Coconut and Mango Sponge Cake from Christopher’s Cake Shop 🥭🤍

A huge thank you to our lovely placement student Katerina for bringing this in! We loved it 🧡💛

Let us know if you’ve tried it or if we should try another cake from Christopher’s Cake Shop!

If your child has a retained reflex, the natural next question is: how, and why did it not just integrate like it should? 👶

Babies are born with primitive reflexes to help them survive those first months. As the brain matures through movement, floor time and experience, these reflexes usually fade into the background on their own.

Sometimes they linger, and the exact reason is not always clear. Things that can play a part include less tummy time or floor play, birth experiences, illness or injury, or simply individual differences in how a child develops. It is common, and it is not something you did wrong.

The good news is that movement based support can help the body do what it was always trying to do.

Trying a calmer, more connected approach is hard enough without a raised eyebrow from family 💛 So let us clear one thing up.

Gentle does not mean permissive. It does not mean no boundaries. It means holding the boundary with warmth instead of fear. You can absolutely say no, and mean it, while staying kind.

You know your child better than anyone at that table. You do not owe everyone a lecture, and you do not need to win the debate. A simple this works for us is a full sentence.

Stay the course. The results will speak for themselves, and often the doubters come around when they see a calmer, more confident child.

When a child sees both a speech pathologist and an occupational therapist, parents sometimes wonder if it is overkill. It is not 🤝

Think of it as two experts looking at your child through different lenses. Speech pathology focuses on communication, understanding, talking, and sometimes feeding. Occupational therapy focuses on the everyday skills of being a kid, like play, movement, regulation, and fine motor skills.

Here is the magic. These areas overlap. A calm, regulated body helps a child communicate. Strong communication helps a child engage in play. When the two work together, your child does not get double the work, they get a joined up plan.

One child, one team, two sets of expert eyes.

When your child struggles with sounds, textures or busy places that other kids breeze through, it is natural to wonder why 🌈

Here is the simple truth. Every single one of us processes sensory information differently. It sits on a spectrum, and where a child lands is just part of how their nervous system is wired. Some children feel the world more intensely, some seek out more input, some need less.

It is not caused by parenting, and it is not something your child is choosing. It is simply their unique wiring, and it is more common than you might think.

Understanding your child’s sensory world is the first step to helping them feel calm, safe and confident in it.

A little bottle of bubbles is one of the hardest working tools we own 🫧 It looks like pure fun, and it is, but behind the giggles we are quietly targeting a whole list of goals.

Here are some of the goals we might work on with something as simple as bubbles. It is a lovely peek at the intention behind the play. Save it and try it at home.

There is no fixed answer, because every child is different, but two things shape the timeline more than anything 🗣️

The first is your child’s specific learning needs. Some skills build quickly, others take patient, steady work.

The second is practice at home. The words, sounds and strategies we work on land so much faster when they are woven into everyday life between sessions.

We reassess along the way and keep you in the loop, so you always know where things are heading. The goal is steady, meaningful progress, not a race.
