Transplant Australia

Transplant Australia We’re here for life to support all Australians on their transplant journey. Responses will not always be provided as to why posts are deleted.

We provide advocacy, education and connection for recipients, living donors, donor families, carers and those waiting. Transplant Australia originated as the Australian Transplant Sports Association which was formed in the late 1980’s to provide transplant recipients the opportunity to take part in the World Transplant Games. The driving force behind the Australian Transplant Sports Association w

ere David Cairns and Brian Donovan, both transplant recipients, who, in 1988, organised the first Australian Transplant Games to encourage transplant recipients to take part in sports and demonstrate the wonders of organ transplantation to the community. Another key player in the formative years was Mark Cocks, a transplant recipient himself, who played an integral part in both winning the bid to stage the 1997 World Transplant Games in Sydney. Transplant Australia exists to make the most of life – promoting the life-saving benefits of organ and tissue donation to the Australian public and supporting those most vulnerable through their journey back to the fullness of life. Transplant Australia Social Media Guidelines

Over the weekend we hosted two incredible joint events in Queensland - our Sports & Community Camp alongside the TAFC Football Training Camp.

Participants got involved in swimming, athletics and even a racewalk in preparation for the Australian Transplant Games. While the Transplant Australia Football Club trained ahead of the 2026 Transplant Football World Cup.

On Saturday, we also hosted our Comeback Women’s Football Come & Try session. It was fantastic to see the community come together, try something new, build confidence and connect through sport.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the weekend such a success.

Every 27 minutes, an Australian is diagnosed with blood cancer.

For many patients, a stem cell transplant is their best chance at a healthy future, but not everyone can find a matching donor in time.

This World Blood Cancer Day, we’re standing with patients and families affected by blood cancer, and raising awareness of the urgent need for more stem cell donors.

Joining the registry is simple, but for someone searching for their match, it could mean everything. 💙

Tomorrow night, we leave a light on for our organ and tissue donors.

At the heart of every transplant is a donor and donor family whose generosity made the gift of life possible. Donor Heroes Night is a chance to honour and remember all those who said “yes” to organ and tissue donation.

Transplant Australia is pleased to support Donor Families Australia and encourage our transplant community and everyone touched by donation to leave a light on in gratitude and remembrance.

Thank you to all donors and donor families for your extraordinary gift.
