And finding the right support isn’t about choosing what works for everyone else. It’s about finding what works for you.

Sometimes, the people you support can teach you just as much as you give them🧡

For independent support worker Helen, one of the biggest things her client Sue has taught her is the value of people.

It’s something Helen brings into her everyday practice supporting older Australians: taking the time to listen, understand what matters to each person and build genuine connections.

We recently spoke with Helen to hear more about supporting Sue, what she’s learnt along the way and the advice she’d give to other independent support workers working in aged care.

Here’s a look back at our 2026 Independent Support Worker Summit💜

We recently brought together independent support workers from across Australia for a morning of learning, connection and inspiration.

The event was packed with expert insights, practical business tips, inspiring client stories, and meaningful conversations, all designed to help support workers build their confidence, knowledge and professional toolkit.

A huge thank you to our guest speakers, panellists and everyone who joined us. We loved seeing so many members of our community connect, learn and share experiences throughout the morning✨

Everyday harm isn't always obvious.

Sometimes, small words, actions or assumptions can affect how safe, respected or heard a person feels.

💭 "We'll stay home today. They're tired."
💭 "I already know what they prefer."
💭 "It's not a big deal."

These moments may seem small, but their impact can build over time.

Preventing everyday harm isn't about being perfect. It's about listening, reflecting and helping people feel heard, respected and in control of their choices💜
