Do you stretch regularly but still feel tight again a few hours later?

The problem may not be that you need to stretch harder. It may be that you are stopping before your body learns how to control the new range.

A useful way to approach mobility is through three phases:

1️⃣ 0–30 seconds: Relax
Allow the nervous system to settle and reduce unnecessary protective tension.

2️⃣ 30–90 seconds: Explore
Spend comfortable time in the position so the stretch becomes more tolerable.

3️⃣ 90+ seconds: Strengthen
Add gentle muscular effort and controlled movement so your body learns to support the new range.

This final phase is often missed. If your body does not feel strong or stable near the end of a movement, it may continue to restrict that range.

Our latest blog explains how to combine stretching with end-range strength and includes practical exercises for improving hip and lower-back mobility.

🎥 Meet Katarina – Clinical Hypnotherapist & NLP Practitioner at Neurohealth Wellness

This Spinal Health Month, we're continuing our practitioner spotlight series by introducing Katarina.

Katarina helps people move beyond the limitations that can leave them feeling stuck. People often seek her support when experiencing anxiety, ongoing stress, emotional eating, grief, low confidence or functional symptoms such as IBS.

She chose hypnotherapy because it provides an opportunity to work with the deeper subconscious patterns that can influence how we think, feel, behave and respond to everyday life.

Rather than relying on willpower alone, Katarina's approach is about helping people explore these underlying patterns and create change at a deeper level.

Her passion for this work also comes from personal experience. Having faced autoimmune conditions relatively early in life, as well as grief and other significant emotional challenges, Katarina developed a strong interest in the connection between our thoughts, emotions, behaviours and overall wellbeing.

While approaches such as CBT can be extremely valuable, her own journey taught her that awareness is only one part of change. This inspired her to explore approaches that work with the subconscious mind and ultimately help others move beyond patterns that may be holding them back.

Outside the clinic, Katarina loves recharging outdoors 🌿 — walking along the headlands and beaches, bushwalking with her husband and son, spending summer by the ocean and skiing in winter. On a rainy day, you'll probably find her doing a puzzle or enjoying a good book. 📚

Watch Katarina's video to discover more about her story and her approach to helping people create meaningful change.

🏃‍♂️ Osgood-Schlatter: Does Your Young Athlete Really Need to Rest?

For years, young athletes with Osgood-Schlatter knee pain have often been told to stop sport, rest and wait for it to go away.

But research suggests there may be a better approach.

A 12-week programme involving load management, progressive strengthening, pain monitoring and a gradual return to sport produced some encouraging results:

✅ 80% reported feeling improved or much improved
💪 Knee-extension strength increased 32%
⬆️ Jump height improved 19%
🏃 Jump distance improved 14%

The key is not necessarily avoiding load altogether — it's learning to manage it and progressively build the young athlete's capacity to tolerate it.

Our new article explains the 3-phase approach:

1️⃣ Manage Load – reduce aggravating activity while maintaining strength
2️⃣ Build Capacity – progressively strengthen with isometrics, squats, split squats and lunges
3️⃣ Return to Sport – gradually reintroduce running, jumping, landing and sport-specific activity

We've also included **practical exercise examples, sets, reps and time under tension** so parents can better understand what progressive rehabilitation can look like.

If your child has persistent knee pain, don't simply assume it's "growing pains". An appropriate assessment can help identify what's causing the symptoms and guide a safe return to activity.

If your hips feel tight, stiff, or “blocked,” you’re not alone—athletes often run into mobility limits that quietly affect stride, balance, and recovery. In our latest article, we break down how hip mobility training can help you move better through a whole-body lens, so the goal isn’t just range of motion, but smoother mechanics and less compensation. With practitioner-led assessment and integrated, holistic support, you’ll learn how to approach mobility in a way that respects the nervous system as well as the body. Whether you’re training, desk-bound, or rebuilding strength, this is about long-term resilience—not quick fixes.
