In the Nation of Nations, "I don't finish their sentences."

That's something Newsha Javahery, and Founder of Newsha Counselling, says with quiet certainty.

When a client comes from a different background and is not their first language, becomes something more than words. It becomes presence. It becomes . It becomes the ability to read what someone is feeling before they've found the words to explain it.

"You have to read their , you have to read the body language. You have to show them that you're there and you're trying to understand them."

In , this kind of attentiveness isn't a technique. It's a responsibility.
Because minimising someone's experience, even unintentionally, because they can't find the right word, can quietly close the door on the very thing that brought them in.

For many people navigating across a language barrier, being truly heard can feel rare. What Newsha describes is the deliberate, careful act of making space for that.

Australia gave Homeyra something her training in Iran never could, the chance to sit with people from every corner of the world.

Homeyra Lalavi, Registered and Founder of AwareCare Psychology, reflects on what it was actually like to start practicing in after coming from Iran, where working with people from completely different cultural backgrounds simply wasn't part of the clinical reality, here, it was.

And in those early days, when something in a session didn't land the way it should, the automatic assumption from the client's side often wasn't about cultural difference. It was about competence.

That's the weight a carries when they're navigating both and at the same time.

The knowledge is there. The training is there. What's different is the language, and the way two people from different parts of the world try to find each other across it.

Sometimes what looks like a clinical gap is actually a communication gap.
