A little reminder that I don’t just work with kids 🫶🏼

While I talk a lot about paediatric epilepsy here (and it’s a huge part of what I do), I also work with adults in clinic.

From epilepsy and gut health to mood, nutrition and everything that can sit in between, my approach is always about looking at the bigger picture and supporting the person in front of me.

So if you’ve been following along thinking, “I wonder if Sonya sees adults too?” - the answer is yes!

Head to the link in my bio to book or find out more. I'd love to support you along your health journey.

This is exactly why I love working in natural health 🫶🏼

Health doesn’t always have to be medication OR natural medicine. There can be so much we can do alongside conventional treatment to support how someone is feeling day to day.

I love looking at the bigger picture and asking: what else can we do to support you alongside your medical care?

That’s the space I’m incredibly passionate about. ✨

One of my favourite simple options for kids following a keto-style approach 🥛

This keto milkshake is quick to throw together, easy to adapt to your child’s taste preferences, and can work really well when you’re looking for something a little different for breakfast, lunch or a snack.

The base is simple:
🥥 Cream or coconut milk + filtered water
🥄 MCT
💪 A protein source
🫐 Berries
✨ Vanilla or cinnamon for a little extra flavour

The key is finding the combination and consistency your child actually enjoys - because there’s no point creating the “perfect” recipe if they won’t drink it!

Swipe across for the recipe and save this one to try later. 💛

And remember, ketogenic diets used therapeutically for epilepsy should be individually tailored and undertaken with guidance from your child’s healthcare team.

A ketogenic diet can feel like a BIG change - and I completely understand why so many families feel overwhelmed by the idea.

I’ve had a number of families come to me wanting to explore ketogenic dietary therapy to support their child’s epilepsy, but feeling unsure about what that actually looks like day-to-day.

Having personally followed both keto and a modified Atkins approach, I know it isn’t always easy or realistic to jump straight into a strict ketogenic diet.

Sometimes, we can start by simply looking at how we can make meals more low-glycaemic.

That might look like:
✨ Including protein with every meal
✨ Looking at the type and amount of carbohydrates being eaten
✨ Exploring resistant starches, including cooked and cooled potato or rice
✨ Choosing options such as sweet potato
✨ Pairing carbohydrates with protein, fats and fibre

Remember, it doesn’t always have to be all or nothing.

Paediatrics in Practice presents Bloods Without the Guesswork🩸

Join Kelly Allan for our upcoming Paediatric Blood Pathology Online Masterclass, where she’ll take you through a practical framework for interpreting common paediatric bloods with greater confidence.

We’ll cover iron and ferritin, zinc and copper, B12 and folate, homocysteine, vitamin D, thyroid markers, red blood cells and white blood cells - with a focus on how to bring the results together clinically rather than looking at each marker in isolation.

You’ll also receive a Kids Blood Pathology Cheat Sheet to keep as a practical reference in clinic, plus 1 CPE point.
A recording will be available if you can’t attend live.

It’s official… Paediatrics in Practice is coming back in 2027! 🎉

After the incredible response to our very first summit, I knew this couldn’t be a one-off.

There is something so special about bringing practitioners together in one room to learn from each other, share ideas, make new connections and ultimately help us all provide better care for the children and families we work with.

So… save the date: 22nd May 2027. ✨

I’m already working behind the scenes to make the next Paediatrics in Practice even bigger and better, and I cannot wait to share what we have planned.

For now, pop it in your calendar and stay tuned. 👀

Finally got my hands on the professional photos from Paediatrics in Practice 2026 and they’ve taken me straight back to this day. 🥹

Even a few months on, I still can’t quite believe how special it was.

What started as an idea to bring practitioners together became a room filled with incredible speakers, shared knowledge, new friendships, clinical conversations, lots of laughs and such a genuine sense of community.

Looking through these photos has reminded me why I wanted to create this event in the first place.

Our profession is full of incredibly passionate people doing amazing work for children and families - but so often, we’re doing it alone in our own little clinics.

For one day, we got to change that.

I’m still so grateful to every person who spoke, attended, sponsored, supported and helped bring PIP26 to life.

And judging by how happy these photos make me… I think we might just have to do it all again. 👀✨

Swipe through for a little look back at one of my favourite days of 2026. →

Missed the event? The recordings are now available for purchase. Comment PIP26 and I’ll send you the link to access 👏🏼

I recently joined Lynda on the Love & Guts podcast to talk all things childhood constipation 🎙️

Constipation in kids can be a lot more complex than simply “eat more veggies and drink more water” - and it’s something I see come up again and again with families.

In this episode, we chat about some of the common and often overlooked contributors to constipation, what faecal impaction can actually look like, and ways we can support healthy bowel function alongside conventional treatment.

We also cover food-first strategies, hydration, magnesium, probiotics, when it’s time to see your GP and plenty of practical tips you can actually take away and use.

Thank you for having me, I loved this conversation 🫶🏼

A little break from clinic for something very special. Bali, to watch my beautiful bestie get married. 🥹

Such a joy to be part of her day, meet her gorgeous Irish family and take my girls away for some much-needed laughter, fun and a little glimpse of a world different from our own.

And so proud of Tim absolutely nailing his MC duties. 🤍

Feeling very full after a beautiful few days away.
...and obsessed with Bali dogs - there is a B roll full of them! I am sure I saw Chalkie's cousin in Seminyak

What a week in clinic!

One of the things I love most about paediatric nutrition is that no two weeks are ever the same.

This week I've been supporting families with:
✨ Epilepsy
✨ Childhood constipation
✨ Paediatric gut microbiome concerns
✨ Food intolerances

Every child is unique, and so is the approach I take. Whether we're exploring therapeutic nutrition for epilepsy, improving gut health, managing persistent constipation or working through suspected food intolerances, my goal is always to create practical, evidence-based nutrition plans that fit into real family life.

If you've been looking for support with your child's nutrition, I'd love to help.
