Groin strains and hip flexor injuries are one of the most frequently under-managed conditions we see in footballers and runners through winter. Partly because they’re not as dramatic as an ACL, and partly because players assume they can run it off.

They usually can’t.

Without proper assessment and a graded return-to-run plan, groin injuries have a habit of becoming recurring problems that affect multiple seasons.

If the groin’s been tight or sore for more than a week, get it looked at. Early assessment means shorter recovery.

What actually happens in the SWSM rehab gym?

Sam, Ewan and Chris pull back the curtain.

ACL. WorkCover. Volleyball. The context changes. The standard doesn’t.

This is what evidence-based rehab looks like on the floor.

The physio knows the injury. The coach knows the athlete. The athlete knows their body.

When those three conversations happen together - consistently - outcomes improve. Return-to-sport timelines tighten. Setbacks get caught earlier. And athletes feel less like they're navigating a system alone.

Jad, Bec and Brent talk through what the coach-physio relationship really looks like at SWSM. And why communication is part of the treatment.

On June 3rd, Sydney West Sports Medicine hosted a sold out VALD Performance workshop.

The event brought together leading practitioners across physiotherapy, strength & conditioning, and high-performance sport for practical presentations, evidence-based discussion, and networking with industry peers.

Featuring presentations by our very own SWSM representatives Rob Mullard and Coach Yannick Mifsud, the evening explored key topics in injury prevention, rehabilitation, and performance optimisation across running-based sports.

Congratulations on such a successful event!

If you or someone close to you has been told they have osteoporosis or osteopenia, you’ve probably heard ‘stay active’… but not much more than that.

The problem is that not all exercise does the same thing for bone density. Walking, swimming, and gentle stretching are good for general health. But bone responds to load, and it needs the right kind of load to stimulate growth.

Swipe through to understand what the evidence says, and why the ONERO® program - now available at SWSM Homebush - is different.

Ankle sprains are the most common injury in winter sport - and also the most under-treated.

Most people strap it, rest for a week, and assume they’re fine. But without proper assessment and rehab, the joint never fully recovers. That leads to chronic instability, repeated sprains, and eventually bigger problems.

Swipe through to understand what’s actually happening when you roll your ankle -  and what good rehab looks like.

If your ankle has been rolled and ‘recovered’ more than once, it’s worth a proper look.
