UNIBUDS at a Glance

The University of New South Wales Buddhist Society (UNIBUDS) was the first Buddhist organisation on campus in Australia; established in 1981. Venerable Tsang Hui from Hwa Tsang Monastery and Venerable Chao Khun Samai from Wat Pa Buddharangsee are currently the patrons of UNIBUDS, and have been since the formation period. UNIBUDS is a non-sectarian Buddhist society and thus it supports all Buddhism schools and traditions e.g.: Theravada, Mahayana, Tibetan and so on. Over the years, UNIBUDS has grown and flourished to be the largest student Buddhist society on campus in Australia. The activities and events held during a year period include regular English and Chinese dhamma talks, weekly sports sessions, monthly meditation workshops, meditation retreats, social functions and lots more. UNIBUDS always maintains a harmonious relationship among members within the society and outside the society with other Buddhist societies in NSW. UNIBUDS website:

There's a group of ex-UNIBUDS in Malaysia form an association, Zheng Xin Buddhist Association (UNIBUDS alumni, formed year 1999) to continue the journey of learning Dhamma.

Welcome back to Term 3! 🌿✨ We hope everyone had a good break and is feeling ready for a fresh start. As classes begin again, don’t forget to make some time to reconnect with yourself during the first week of term 💛

This week’s Aura Meditation Session will be a gentle opportunity to pause, relax, and bring your attention back to the present moment 🧘‍♀️✨ Don't worry if you are completely new to meditation, because everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy some peaceful time away from the rush of uni life.

In our Chinese Dhamma Talk, we’ll be exploring the Buddhist scripture The Universal Gate Chapter 🪷. We’ll look at its place within the Lotus Sutra, why it is not simply about asking for something and receiving it, and how Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva represents compassion and wisdom. We’ll also discuss how the teachings in the chapter can help us reflect on fear, helplessness, and difficult moments in everyday life.

Our English Dhamma Talk will focus on Compassion and Wisdom 🌱✨ We’ll explore Buddhist teachings on compassion, examples of how compassion can be practised in daily life, and why wisdom is essential in helping us respond to others in a thoughtful and meaningful way.

As always, everyone is welcome to join 😆 Whether you’re new to UNIBUDS, curious about Buddhism, or have been joining us for a while, we’d love to see you again this term 🌸

Hope to see you all in Week 1! 💛
