*some of* what I eat in a week.
I intensely dislike what I eat in a day posts.
These posts are typically a misleading selection of curated photos, that don’t represent what a person actually eats.
Even if they were 100% accurate, what someone else eats in one day is irrelevant to what you need to eat, and seeing it could negatively impact the decisions you make.
So with that in mind, here’s a combination of meals that I have eaten this week (and why I ate them), from someone who not only has a degree in nutrition, and a fair understanding of food psychology, but also who has a job and a life.
- king prawn paella, made with foraged wild garlic from a walk earlier that same day. How unbearably instagram aesthetic of me.
- a very sad sandwich I ate during the 4 minute walk from work to my car after getting too over hungry and then giving myself indigestion
- a bowl of Greek yoghurt, fresh berries, granola and seeds, with extra milk cos I like yoghurt but don’t think its wet enough
- cereal I ate with my drunk housemate when I got back from work and she got in from a night out (at the same time) after finishing off the left over pasta bake together
- a copy of the brunch I love from a place near me because saving money means cooking at home
- steak and salad alfresco summer evening dinner, cos it was very quick and I was very tired but wanted to feel fancy
- a sweet potato and avocado bagel at the top of a hill with a great view but it was so windy all the rocket blew away
- a bowl of soup I didn’t really want but knew I’d be over hungry if I didn’t eat
- a bowl of warm cookies and caramel ice cream that I really did want
- a Hawaiian pizza in the sun that was made in error and given to me so I ate by myself on a bench
All these meals are very different, and eaten for very different reasons. In isolation some could be considered ‘unhealthy’ or ‘poor choices’ or whichever label you like, but they fitted the needs I had at that time, which makes them all the best possible decision for me.
Make decisions based on what you need, not how someone else’s diet looks.
