There’s so much more beneath the surface.✨
We may learn facial anatomy from a textbook, but no two faces will ever follow that textbook in exactly the same way.
We all have the same basic groups of facial muscles, yet their size, strength, position and patterns of movement can vary from person to person. Some muscles may naturally be more dominant, while others work together differently when we smile, frown, squint or raise our brows.
And muscles are only one part of the picture.
Beneath the skin is an intricate relationship between muscles, fat compartments, ligaments and bone—all contributing to our expressions, facial contours and the way our faces change over time.
This is why facial assessment is never simply about looking at where a muscle sits on a diagram. It’s about understanding how the individual face moves, how the different structures interact, and how those characteristics contribute to the face as a whole.
A face should be assessed at rest, in motion, through expression and from different angles—because anatomy is not one-size-fits-all.
We may learn anatomy from a textbook, but the person sitting in front of us will always be the real lesson.
Every face is different.
Every face moves differently.
And that individuality should always be respected.🤍
