Every submission tells a different story — and that’s exactly the point.

This calendar is stronger when it reflects the diversity of our community — different people, different experiences, different ways of communicating and connecting.

Remember Harper? Harper was featured in our 2026 Calendar – and her story was short, sweet and so meaningful for our community!

"Hi, my name is Harper and I'm 9 years old. I love cooking and eating delicious food, spending time with family and reading.

When I grow up, I want to be a chef. Helping mum cook is so much fun!

I use an Accent 1000 with Unity 84 sequenced to communicate. I love the voice that my device has given me."

If you’ve been wondering whether your story is “the right kind” of story to share, this is your reminder that there isn’t just one kind.

We’d love to see your version of communication in everyday life.

Not sure where to start? You'll find all the submission details in our Community Calendar Competition blog here: https://liberator.net.au/2027-calendar-competition/

It’s the end of the month, which means it’s a great time to clean your AAC device! 🧼

Let’s face it – devices get dirty. Whether you’re at school, work or just having dinner, your device comes along for the ride. Give it some cleaning attention regularly to keep it working well.

For light cleaning, use a soft, lint-free cloth on the touchscreen. For deeper cleaning, use a slightly damp, lint-free cloth, then dry the screen with another soft cloth. You can find more detailed cleaning tips in your device manual.

👉 Helpful to know: Keyguards can go in the dishwasher!

Nothing is perfect – even AAC 😉And let’s be honest: communication hiccups happen to everyone.

The goal is not perfection, though. It's knowing how to navigate those moments when communication doesn’t go as expected.

So, we asked Joey:

‘How should you respond to an AAC communication breakdown?’

Thanks for the great advice, Joey!

When Ellen Wi******er first met Vaani, he had so much to say – but limited ways to say it.

Today, he communicates using speech, symbols and a keyboard, sharing his observations, humour and growing literacy skills.

For Ellen, Vaani's journey is a reminder that AAC is about so much more than requesting.

‘When people can access communication that works for them, they can express who they are and what matters to them. To me, that's thriving.’

As Speech Pathology Week comes to an end, we're reminded that communication opens the door to self-expression, joy – and the chance to thrive.

(Scroll through for a few photos of Vaani showing his true, cheeky self! 💜)

💜🏳️‍🌈 Wear It Purple Day 💜🏳️‍🌈

Today, we’re wearing purple to celebrate the everyday courage, resilience and diverse experiences of LGBTQIA+ young people.

Wear It Purple Day is particularly meaningful to us because we have LGBTQIA+ staff across our team.

By wearing purple, we’re showing our support for our colleagues – and for a nationwide movement that promotes safe, inclusive and affirming environments for LGBTQIA+ young people 💜🏳️‍🌈

Because behind every splash of purple today is a simple message: everyone deserves to feel seen, valued, supported and included💜💙💚

‘Communication isn't the end goal. Participation is.’

—Cecille Kalafut, Liberator’s Regional Manager (Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia)

Communication helps people take part in the relationships, routines and experiences that make up life. From family conversations and friendships to school, work and community, communication creates opportunities to embrace all those everyday moments.

This Speech Pathology Week, we're celebrating the possibilities communication creates.

Because communication is more than expressing wants and needs.

It's about participating in everyday life and connecting with the people and communities around us 💙💚💜

Communication, says Consultant Claire Knights, is a fundamental right we all have.

Yet too often, we don’t give individuals the choice to say what they want, when they want – or in the way that works best for them.

‘Without access to robust communication, we limit their access to vocabulary and their ability to communicate a range of communication functions,’ she tells us.

Today, as part of Speech Pathology Week, we’re focusing on the ‘Possibility to Choose’. It’s a powerful reminder that communication is about more than words – it’s also about being included, heard and understood.
