In simple terms, it refers to how mental health challenges can affect someone's ability to navigate everyday life, including work, relationships, community participation, routines and independence.

It can look different for everyone. That's why understanding the person, not just the label, matters.

Understanding the words we use is part of making support more accessible. 💙

Today was a little different around Maverick – there was a whole lot more purple than usual! 💜

We wore purple for Wear It Purple Day to show our support for LGBTQIA+ young people & to stand for something we think is pretty important – everyone deserves to feel like they belong.

For us, inclusion isn’t something that only matters on one day of the year. It’s in the way we treat people, the way we support each other & the communities we help create.

Today was just a great excuse to wear a bit of purple, have some conversations, check in with each other & remind ourselves why it matters.

Safe. Seen. Respected. Accepted. Included.
That’s the kind of community we want to be part of. 💜

💜 This Friday, is wearing purple.

Because inclusion matters. Acceptance matters. People matter.

Wear It Purple Day is about standing with LGBTQIA+ young people & creating communities where everyone feels safe, supported & able to be themselves.

At , we believe everyone deserves to feel safe being exactly who they are – in our workplaces, in our communities & in the supports we provide.

So, on Friday 28 August, our team will be wearing purple to show that support isn’t just something we say – it’s something we live.

🏆 The award nominations just keep coming…

We honestly feel like we’re spending half the year celebrating our CEO, Kara; & if we’re being completely honest, we’re not mad about it. 😂

It seems like every time we turn around, another nomination lands, with so many of them falling into this little thing we like to call “award season.” Now… another one!

We’re incredibly proud to announce that our CEO has been named a FINALIST in the 2026 Altitude Awards - in a category that honestly couldn’t be more fitting:

Behind every award, nomination & finalist announcement is a person who simply works her guts out for people. Kara leads Maverick Supports with genuine care, determination & a whole lot of heart. She shows up for her team, supports her colleagues, advocates fiercely for our participants & is constantly looking for ways to make things better.

She doesn't do what she does for the recognition. In fact, we suspect she'd be much happier quietly getting on with the work than standing in a room accepting an award. When the recognition keeps coming from the people & organisations who see what she does, we think it's pretty important that we stop for a minute & celebrate her too.

We’re a fair way through August - but there’s still time to donate! 💙
Maverick Supports is proud to be a Share the Dignity Drive AUGUST collection point located in Currans Hill this month.
Note: If you would like to donate; DM us for the exact address.
If you’ve been meaning to donate, make this next week count. Add some period products to your shopping & drop them into our collection point so they can reach women who genuinely need them.
Period products are not free in Australia (YET), & so not equally accessible to everyone. In a country like Australia, no one should have to choose between buying basic necessities & putting food on the table.
Menstrual dignity is everyone’s responsibility. So, if you can spare a packet, a few products or even a whole bag, please get them to us this week.
It might feel like a small donation to you, but for someone doing it tough, it can be one less thing they have to worry about. Let’s fill that collection box. 💙

Wednesday was adventure day for our no1 participant - Pep!
Pep & Trev Smith caught the train, jumped on the ferry & headed off to explore Manly Wharf together.

We love seeing our participants out there exploring, trying new things & enjoying their community.

Well done, Pep & Trevor; Manly looks like it was a pretty great Wednesday! 👏

The developing story of Lily Hooper over the last 8 days has affected many in the Maverick community.

The devastating news today has hit our community hard. We stand with you.

Despite the miscommunication by authorities, we want you all to know support is available if you need it.

Our love and support goes out to all the rescuers, friends and family of Lily Hooper.
