Using apps to wrangle tech habits? You bet I am! My phone is a swiss-army knife, its got lots of useful features I wouldn't leave home without. But the digital candy bar is open 24/7 and the game changer for me is using Freedom app to give my social media a clear digital sunset.

There are lots of tools you can choose to help nudge your habits into better shape.

And yes, it might sound ironic (actually its kinda iatrogenic), it gives us mere mortals agency to design our digital lives without waiting for gigantic-tech to. These tools cost far less than the devices themselves and save us buckets time, focus and energy.

Me on the telly today talking about this - thanks to for having me! ☀️

❓Do you use a tool to help you put opening hours and boundaries around you devices and digital guilty pleasures? Which one and how does it help?

Tell your favourite Education Minister!

Jason Clare calling for students to 'digital detox'. Pru Car waking up to the LLM's as the biggest disruption to education assessment since wikipedia. insert exploding head emoji.

If you asked me 20 years ago at the start of the 'digital education revolution' how we might be thinking about our use (god forbid, mastery) over our digital tools, I would not have thought we'd have done so little to foster intelligent and intentional use.

20 years since the digital education revolution and all the federal education minister has for kids is a dodgy notion of a digital fuqqin detox?? Wake me up when the robots take over.

You exist if you show up here with your nice new head shots or in your trakkies.

So many folks in my world are active in my DMs but ghosting the feed. I get it, I'm in a seriously CBF'd era too.

We've been punkt into thinking showing up and posting like it's an Olympic sport is the path to big bucks. The jig is up.

Self care is no longer about just individual actions. It's about recognising it's the systems that make us crave that self-care that are the root causes of our collective and growing dis ease.

Name them plainly and watch your energy start to return.

Fun fact: The eSafety Office might have had funding quadrupled, but there is no litigation budget to pursue the Tech Companies that breach the ban via court proceedings....

Outspoken comments by the bureaucrat in charge of implementing the federal government’s ban have stirred up opposition to the scheme.

Your client needs it now. Your boss says it's urgent. And before you've had a coffee, it's already living in your body.

That's not dedication. That's someone else's panic finding a home in your nervous system.

Somewhere along the way we started treating other people's timelines as instructions. Their stress lands, we absorb it, and suddenly we're reactive instead of intentional.

This week I actually typed this in an email to a client who was running on a different clock to me:

Your urgency is not my urgency.

Not rude. Not dismissive. Just honest. Possibly a bit eye opening.

The irony? They were enquiring about a session on boundaries and priorities.

The biggest attention drains aren't always apps. Sometimes they're people, and the quiet assumption that their timeline automatically becomes yours. It doesn't.

Digital Nutrition™ is about being intentional with where your attention goes. That includes deciding whose stress you absorb, and whose you don't.

Save this for the next time someone else's deadline tries to move into your calendar. 👇

We taught kids 'resilience'. We gave them endless tech. Their digital skills are at a 20-year low and their mental health isn't much better.

Here's what we didn't do: ask them.

Not in a tick-a-box survey. Not in a student representative council that reports to no one. Actually ask. Actually listen. Actually change something based on what they said.

Young people are not the problem to be managed. They're the experts on their own experience. Co-designing solutions with them isn't soft or idealistic. It's just good practice.

The interventions keep failing because the people most affected by them had no hand in shaping them.

What would change if we genuinely started there?
