Over the weekend, one of our defibs was used in a heartbreaking situation.
A 27-year-old referee collapsed during a game when his heart suddenly stopped. Despite immediate use of the defibrillator, he sadly didn’t make it. What makes this even more devastating is that his fiancée was the line judge at the game and witnessed everything unfold.
We share this with a heavy heart.
While these are the stories we never want to hear, they are a sobering reminder of why we do what we do. On average, we get one life saved every month because a defib was close by and used quickly.
When a defibrillator is used within the first 3 minutes, the chance of survival can be as high as 70%. Without one, the odds drop to less than 10%.
But even within that 70%, not everyone survives — and those losses are devastating.
It’s why we continue this mission. It’s why we push for more awareness, more access, and more action. Because every second counts — and every life!
