In Bweyale Refugee Camp, a mother of ten lives inside a fragile, overcrowded shelter with no space, no privacy, and no stability.

When asked about her life, she broke down in tears—the hardship was too heavy to put into words. Her tears reflect exhaustion, hunger, and the daily struggle of survival in impossible conditions.

We stood with her and promised she is not alone—that she will not be forgotten in her hardship.

But that promise now depends on action.

Each day without help means more hunger, more overcrowding, and more suffering.

In Bweyale Refugee Camp, we witnessed the harsh reality of extreme poverty—basic structures offering no privacy, no safety and even a bathroom made from the most minimal materials, placed in open conditions.

Families are trying to survive with small efforts toward self-reliance, such as raising chickens, but even these are threatened by theft and insecurity. For many, breaking free from a life of constant struggle is nearly impossible without stable housing and proper support.

Ashura is a day of gratitude and reflection. It marks the day Allah saved Prophet Musa (AS) and the Children of Israel from Fir'aun.

When the Prophet ﷺ arrived in Madinah and saw this day being observed in gratitude, he fasted it and encouraged Muslims to fast as well.

It is encouraged to fast a day before or after (9th or 11th of Muharram) alongside Ashura as it is an act of gratitude to Allah, following the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ, and seeking forgiveness and spiritual renewal.

Take this opportunity to make sincere du'a, seek Allah’s forgiveness, and renew your intentions. A single day of fasting carries great reward and spiritual benefit.
