❣️ parkrun❣️
A little impromptu meet up today in Lithgow with 3 existing (and one brand new) ambassadors gathering for a parkrun.
Paul, the ever trusty ED of our event was also there for the fun and we had a great time catching up.
There an unbelievable 1,365 parkrun participations representative in this photo. Think of all the memories and new friends made just in this group.

trust
These few weeks see a shift in my overall distance load. I'm prepping for mid October where I ramp intensity of workouts and want a higher weekly base to work from.
It's not much, overall it is less than 10% increase. But I'm pushing more routine into zone 2 and the accumulation fatigue is throwing out a higher average heart rate.
So Garmin, the ever motivating bedevil goes on ahead and whacks me with an unproductive.
Hoping the process will win out over an algorithm and strict data harvesting without context.

shoes
I had 10 pairs in rotation for the last little bit. Mostly it's grown like that because the shoes I last swapped out to "work" shoes lasted so long.
They were Salomon Speed Cross 6 (the ones I ran UTA50 in), retired about December 2025. Performing admirably as walkers even after the 600km of running they did.
Recently they've been hurting my feet due to the degradation and so I've spent a few weeks humming and haarrring about what shoes to become my walkers.
I had three sets hovering around 600km, and quite sadly the pair seemingly flatter than the others were my parkrun/brooks crossover shoes.
So I took them out for a final spin along Stockton Beach over the weekend and they now join me on my day to day work cycle (which I maintain in order to purchase more shoes😂)
The other pairs for interest that were considered are a pair of Adizero SL and some Triumphs. Both seem like they could go quite a few more km before needing to be out to pasture

Maitland parkrun
My 300th run was taken in at a beautiful out and back near the Walka Water Works.
The wat h reckons about 15-20m of very gain which is mostly just small ups and downs as you traverse the course. Nothing overly onerous.
A mid to large event that is only really worried by the slightly thinner paths at the beginning. Once you're started it's fine.
The event team are lovely. And I would definitely go back.
Cheers to the unofficial milestone
My 101st different event, about 100 vollies that don't include the ambassador stuff, around 65 times purely vollie with no running participation.
I love my parkrun

weekend

A high compliment in my world is, "we aren't travelling for parkrun, we are traveling for you." Now often both can intersect conveniently, as they just might come Saturday morning. But the primary reason the van is on is much more important

parkrun
I had to scroll my results for Lithgow back to May 2025 for a better result (time wise) for me.
Really happy with my strategy and intensity across the whole run and locks away another positive in my return to shorter course form.
I also played my hand at turning up when the fast runners don't to secure myself a numero uno

City2Surf
Since 2015 I've participated in Sydneys iconic event, the City 2 Surf. A casual 14km journey from Hyde Park to Bondi Beach.
My first will forever be imprinted on me. Sooo many people. Sooo much fitness wear. So much exhaustion and soreness.
Then I started my running journey proper and I added varying levels of happiness and disappointment
Happy I ran under 70 minutes, then disappointed I missed a milestone 60 mins by 9 seconds (9 seconds!)
Elation when I dipped under the hour, then again when I did it despite thinking for more than a quarter of the run I wouldn't make it.
These last two years I've participated as a support for my eldest. Some of my proudest times.
I know we are there, together, because of love. Not necessarily of running (or even exercise for that matter) it's simply doing something together. Made even more special because for one of us the journey is hard. And we do it anyway.
If you haven't tried a City 2 Surf, give it a go. It's amazing
Even better with loved ones.

reflection
Normally the first run back after my City 2 Surf I would reflect on the event and my participation
This time back on my legs I actually spent the space inside my head thinking about my weekend parkrun sub-20 minutes
Because for me, it's more than just a cool number
3:59 pace by a 50 year old is less than 1% of the collective data set. The 74% age grading parkrun gives me for the result is my highest yet.
All cool and fun things to understand about
But I knew I had it in me
This 19:55 came on the back of 16 months of hard yakka though
After UTA 2025 I got running lost a bit. The training messed me.
Floundering around trying to pin routine for a solid 6 months.
Accessing the sums of all my fears.
A further 3-4 months trying to reset my mojo proper before it all came good around Canberra's half marathon thankfully.
A couple of months leaning into that happy before sorting out what was wrong with my short/mid-course speed.
Over a year. Many, many self doubts.
But in the end, discipline
So when I strapped up, took it on and held it together for just enough. There was a long story being told.
Times are just a number, so is age.

running Christmas
We lined up in purple section and had a good solid push.
In the end, a PB was snagged by the eldest and I had an absolute ball.
Beautiful day to run.

Oh look!
It's me on my way to my first sub 20 parkrun this year
