Unmasking happens in spaces where you feel safe, accepted, and supported 🌿

It doesn’t need to be rushed—often it unfolds slowly, as trust builds over time.

And if it doesn’t feel safe yet, that’s okay too. You deserve to move at a pace that feels right for you.

Therapy isn’t about being perfect—it’s about meeting yourself with curiosity, compassion, and acceptance, one day at a time.đŸȘ·

Your emotions are messengers.

You can notice what you’re feeling, honour it, and still choose how you respond.

Taking the first step can feel daunting, but you don’t have to do it alone.

At Peace of Mind Psychology Clinic, we provide compassionate, evidence-based support in a safe and non-judgmental space, helping you navigate life’s challenges at your own pace.

Supporting a teenager doesn’t mean having all the answers.

Often, it’s the small, consistent moments of connection that matter most—listening without judgment, validating feelings, encouraging healthy habits, and noticing their strengths along the way.

Every caring conversation helps build resilience, confidence, and a sense of belonging. 🌿

We all move in and out of our window of tolerance đŸȘ·

Some moments feel steady, present, and connected. Other times, stress, overwhelm, or exhaustion can gently pull us into states of hyper-arousal or shutdown — including responses like freeze or collapse.

Understanding your nervous system isn’t about fixing yourself. It’s about noticing patterns with compassion, and learning what helps you return to balance over time.

The more we understand how we respond to stress, the more space we create for regulation, healing, and self-trust.

Welcome to Peace of Mind Psychology Clinic đŸȘ·

At Peace of Mind, we believe therapy is about creating a space where people feel seen, understood, and supported through life’s challenges and transitions.

Led by principal psychologists Katie and Adiba, our clinic works with children, adolescents, adults, parents, and families across a range of presentations including trauma, neurodivergence, anxiety, depression, OCD, stress and burnout, grief, and life transitions.

Our approach is compassionate, collaborative, and person-centred. We understand that every individual carries a unique story, shaped by their experiences, relationships, strengths, and resilience.

We are passionate about offering care that gently supports each person through their therapeutic journey — at their own pace, while honouring their inner wisdom, capacity, and individuality.

We offer both in-clinic sessions and Australia-wide Telehealth services, supporting individuals and families interstate so care can be accessible wherever you are.

Whether you are seeking support for yourself, your child, your family, or simply looking for a space to feel understood, we are here to walk alongside you.

As a psychologist, I work with many autistic women, and what has taught me more than any book can is experience, observation, and ongoing communication with the women themselves.

Over time, certain patterns have stood out — not as rigid rules, but as observations that help deepen my understanding and improve the support I provide. Because it always starts with understanding, and safety (and never with change or ‘correction’!)

1. Masking can happen unconsciously
Many autistic women mask without realising it. It can become such a practiced survival strategy that it feels automatic, often only becoming visible later in life when exhaustion, burnout, or self-reflection brings it into awareness.

2. They are not “too much”
Emotional intensity is often misunderstood. Many autistic women experience emotions deeply and vividly. What is sometimes labelled as “too much” is often a nervous system responding with honesty and intensity, not excess.

3. Balancing overextension and solitude
Some women may overextend themselves socially or emotionally to meet expectations, while others strongly need solitude to regulate and recover. Both are valid ways of managing energy and overwhelm.

4. Processing conversations deeply
It is common for conversations to be replayed repeatedly in the mind, especially when boundaries are involved. If someone comes across as firm or direct, it is often careful preparation and self-protection — not rudeness.

5. Heightened sensory and emotional awareness
Many autistic women are highly observant. Their nervous system often picks up subtle changes in tone, environment, energy, or relational dynamics that others may miss.

6. Hormonal cycles can add complexity
Monthly hormonal changes can significantly impact emotional regulation, sensory sensitivity, and overwhelm. This can layer additional intensity onto an already responsive nervous system.

7. Predictability supports regulation
Predictability and routine can be deeply regulating. Life transitions — including having children, if chosen — can bring meaningful joy but also significant disruption to internal systems that rely on structure and consistency.
