Health screening in the mid-life!

These are my general recommendations:
- cervical screening
- breast screening
- bowel screening
- skin check
- blood check
- bone density scan
- heart risk assessment

Menopause isn't just a collection a symptoms it represents a big shift in our mid life health. Prevention is better than cure, see you GP to discuss your eligibility for these.

I'll cover each of them in turn over the next few weeks.

Another exciting thing that happened at the healthy hormones conference yesterday was that I won a prize!

Not a box of chocolates, not a free conference pass but an anatomically correct model of the female ge***alia! How awesome for me as this is what I spend a lot of day talking about. And now I am able to show women exactly what I mean on a 3d model!

It was wonder to talk to about her design and how she bought it to life in her passion to support women in her role as a OT.

I learnt about the
- a group of women scientists who have dedicated their professional lives to researching the cl****is.

It was interesting to learn that the cl****is was initially studied in the 1600's but then the anatomical representation of the cl****is disappeared from Gray's Anatomy in 1948. Once again illustrating how little importance was assigned to women's health.

Hopefully now we can all be much more cl****is aware!!

A day of menopause education and movement breaks!

Some wonderful lectures presented by both local and international speakers covering an array of topics including:

The menopause consult
Hormonal mood disturbances
POTS, MCAS & hypermobility
Osteoporosis
Testosterone
Unscheduled bleeding on MHT and how to manage this

Some awesome speakers including
dennischan

Plus others!

It was wonderful to come together with like-minded professionals to further our knowledge of women's midlife health and how, as GP's, we can support women in the best way possible.

Heavy menstrual bleeding (previously menorrhagia) is a common condition affecting up to 25% of menstruating women.

Today marks an international day to build awareness of this common but often overlooked condition.

Common causes of HMB can be split into structural causes such as fibroids and adenomyosis or non structural causes including drug induced or coagulopathy.

Whatever the cause, if you are struggling with HMB then please reach out to your GP for help in managing this.

A wonderful GP education day!

We covered lots of different topics relevant to the health of women and children. My brain is full of new information and I'm looking forward to implementing it into clinical practice from tomorrow!

A requirement of being a GP is maintaining your knowledge through CPD and this event was a fantastic way to start the ball rolling on my 2026 CPD requirements!

A lovely morning meeting Sharyn from Restore. A wonderful clinic to help support patients post cancer with Lymphoedema, osteoporosis and all the other things cancer (and cancer treatment) do to the body.

It was great to see the holistic care they provide and discuss the impact of life post cancer and the lack of services available. Hopefully, we can work together to improve this.

A wonderful evening covering modern menopause management including the management of GSM symptoms.

Interesting to learn about the different embryological origins of the different parts of female ge***al anatomy explaining why some medications work better than others in this area.

Also a great time to remind all women to familiarise themselves with their anatomy so they can be aware of changes when they occur and know when to seek medical review.

A holiday isn't a holiday without a good book!

Although on this trip, I left the usual fiction at home and instead turned to this book written by Emily Nagowski. After all, I spend a lot of time talking about libido!

Remember ladies, libido is multifactorial but talk to your healthcare professional if it is worrying you.
