When a loved one is going through a tough time, their first instinct may not be to ask for help. The fear of being a burden to others is very real, and it stops a lot of people from opening up, even after they're asked, "How are you?" But, there's power in waiting for the right time and asking the right sorts of questions.

Jessamine Chen, Research Fellow at the Lifespan Health and Wellbeing Research Centre at Macquarie University, speaks on the importance of checking up on someone consistently. Sometimes, asking someone "How are you?" a second time can be the difference between them getting support or not.
