Feeling stronger or fitter can make it tempting to increase your distance, speed, weight, training frequency and intensity all at once. However, your muscles, tendons and joints need time to adapt to increased demands.
A more sustainable approach is to progress gradually, adjusting one training variable at a time and monitoring how your body responds. New or increasing discomfort doesn’t necessarily mean you need to stop exercising altogether, but it may indicate that your workload, recovery or movement strategy needs attention.
If symptoms persist, worsen or repeatedly return as your activity increases, a physiotherapy assessment can help identify contributing factors and guide an appropriate progression.
