"Groundbreaking genomic test could spare millions of breast cancer patients chemotherapy"
Scientists have developed a genomic test which can detect who needs chemotherapy and who doesn't. The Optima trial, led by University College London, found that those with a low score on the genomic test could be treated safely with hormone therapy alone.
What does this mean? Women with certain breast cancers may be able to safely avoid chemotherapy, without compromising on breast cancer outcomes and, therefore avoid the gruelling side effects that come with it.
