Spring is in the air! Sneezing, itchy eyes, runny nose, congestion, inflamed sinuses? If your body isn’t loving spring as much as you would like, try these natural tips to strengthen your body’s response to seasonal allergies.
Eat vitamin C-rich food
Eat more antioxidant-rich fruit high in vitamin C to keep your immune system in good shape and ward off allergies – oranges, grapefruit, lemons, limes, and berries.
Turmeric
Turmeric can do wonders for your allergies. Well known due to curcumin, its main ingredient, turmeric can reduce the swelling and irritation of allergic rhinitis. Add this colourful spice to your meals or take it in pill or tincture form.
Quercetin
Quercetin is a natural antihistamine, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Red raw onion in particular contain very high concentration of quercetin (it is a pigment after all). Also found in apples, honey, raspberries, red grapes, cherries, citrus fruits, and green leafy vegetables or add as a supplement.
Ginger
Ginger contains anti-inflammatory phytochemical compounds and antioxidants, which help seasonal allergies. Add either fresh or dried variety to stir fries, curries, baked goods, or try making ginger tea.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is often used to treat not only the symptoms but also the underlying imbalance which cause allergies and inflammatory conditions. Natural and anti-inflammatory, acupuncture is a soothing treatment for your entire body as well as your immune system.
