Meet the founder of The Calm Collab, Sophie.

Most of my career, I’ve worked in healthcare.
I’ve seen and experienced the long hours, shift work, on-call, the responsibility, the constant decision making and the ability to look after others (alongside making space for myself) and this is what led me to creating The Calm Collab.

I became increasingly interested in the nervous system and the importance of this when we may still feel wired, exhausted, reactive or unable to switch off.

My work now focuses on this and supporting others in demanding roles with tools, sessions and resources to support their own nervous system with meditation and sound based practices.

My services bring together what I’ve learned about nervous system regulation and high pressure roles, using evidence informed and trauma aware approaches.

Before your shift, during your shift or after your shift, have you taken a moment to pause… an intentional moment to pause, to breathe and to reset?

When do get an opportunity to pause? Save this as a reminder to make it your priority before, during or after your next shift.

When you make more time for yourself, you start noticing (and appreciating) the little things again. Perhaps the sound of birds, sunlight, fresh air, your own breath.

A dysregulated nervous system often keeps us in survival mode (fight or flight), continuously scanning for the next threat.

If you are unable to remember the last time you noticed something small, perhaps this is your opportunity to begin these supportive practices. Maybe noticing the sound of birds is not for you, but to notice things that are truly meaningful for you.

Take a moment to pause, what is one small thing you notice now that you would have missed, feel free to share below 👇.

Finishing a shift does not always mean switching off. Have you ever noticed the day (or night) follows you home or into your days off?

Perhaps revisiting conversations you had or the patients you managed.

There is no particular way to transition out of work mode, for some people it may be exercise, for others, time outside, a walk, sitting quietly or perhaps having some space before moving into the rest of the day.

What helps you switch off after a shift?

Share yours in the comments below, it might be helpful for a fellow colleague.

Looking back on my healthcare career (from previously working on road and in a range of nursing roles), one thing I would have prioritised much earlier was my own wellbeing. Healthcare professionals spend most of their time caring for and focusing their energy on others, but often forget to support themselves.

While I am grateful that I eventually discovered meditation and sound based practices, I truly wish I had these tools available to me much sooner.

For that reason, The Calm Collab is advocating for, and building awareness, to implement these tools into workplaces where we need them most.

If you are a current or former HCP and would like to introduce these practices in or out of your workplace:

The Calm Collab | Nervous System Support ~ ‘supporting professional wellness’.

What does supporting your wellbeing look like for you?

It may not be the same tools or strategies that you have tried in and out of the workplace previously.

Many workplace wellbeing strategies often centre around those that are familiar. While some are certainly helpful and provide appropriate support, they may not necessarily work for everyone, particularly for those in demanding, high pressure environments.

This is why it is important to focus on individualised/holistic support and finding what works for you.

At The Calm Collab, I offer different approaches to supporting wellbeing through meditation and sound based practices that can fit alongside the realities of high pressure work.

For professionals working in healthcare, emergency services, corporate settings and other high pressure roles, workplace wellbeing/support may consist of a range of traditional methods or more holistic approaches.

It may include evidence informed education/resources, practical tools for nervous system regulation, guided meditation or sound-based practices (some of which may be offered digitally, some face to face depending on your organisational needs).

If you or your organisation are looking for ways to support the wellbeing of your team, The Calm Collab | Nervous System Regulation | Australia would love to hear from you.

The past few weeks have been busy at Sophie Lucia | The Calm Collab in many different ways.

Behind the scenes there has been time spent creating, planning and continuing to build meaningful ways to support wellbeing, as well as conducting face to face sessions.

Throughout this period, I have also been intentional about maintaining my own practice. This is something I value, not only for my own wellbeing but because I believe staying grounded and regulated is key in providing a supportive practice for others.

If you’re looking for practical ways to support your nervous system, manage stress and create moments of calmness through meditation and sound based practices, please reach out.
