After a shift (especially in healthcare and high-pressure roles), your body may still feel activated.

For some people, that ‘switched on’ feeling does not instantly ‘switch off’ when they physically leave work. It can continue on the way home, into days off and into sleep.

This often happens when the nervous system has been in sustained periods of demand, urgency and responsibility and has not fully transitioned effectively out of the sympathetic state.

Finishing a shift does not always mean your body has ‘switched off’.

For those who work in high-pressure or shift based roles, the nervous system can remain in an active state for a period of time.

You may notice ~ difficulty relaxing or ‘switching off’ challenging.

Approaches that work with the body through gentle, consistent, sensory input may support nervous system downregulation (which differs from passive forms of distraction such as scrolling on social media or watching TV).

Small physiological cues such as slowing the breath, softening your gaze or the use of tuning forks may support this.

👉🏻 Follow for practical tools to support nervous system regulation.

Nurses and other Healthcare Professionals, you may have finished your shift, but it doesn’t necessarily mean your body has.

Perhaps you are at home and trying to settle/switch off, but your sympathetic nervous system may still be activated.

This is why settling may feel challenging, difficult or uneasy.

👉🏻Did you know that your nervous system may need appropriate support to assist with this.

was designed for this, to support nervous system regulation both in and out of the workplace.
