We had a deadly day out at the Koori Netball Gala Day in Tamworth on Sunday.

TAMS-AC was proud to be part of the action, spending the day yarnin' with community, handing out over 50 gift bags, providing sports strapping, sharing injury prevention tips, and letting mob know about the services available at TAMS-AC.
Thanks to the team who gave up their Sunday to help out!

Hold on to your hats, this is a long post! 🀠

The TAMS-AC Youth Leadership Program brought together 12 Aboriginal students from five schools across Tamworth and Manilla for three days of culture, leadership, connection and future planning.

Throughout the program, students visited local Aboriginal organisations and significant community sites, spent time with Elders, explored Gomeroi language and culture, heard from inspiring Aboriginal leaders, and took part in hands-on activities focused on health, wellbeing and career pathways. They also had the opportunity to visit the University of Newcastle's health simulation labs and connect with Aboriginal professionals working across a range of health and community service roles.

One of the most valuable outcomes was helping young people see the many opportunities available to them after school. Through honest yarns and real-life experiences, students gained a better understanding of pathways into health, wellbeing, community services and leadership roles, while building confidence in their own ability to make a difference.

The program was a powerful reminder that when young people are connected to culture, community and opportunity, amazing things happen. We saw confidence grow, friendships form, ideas shared, and future leaders begin to see what's possible.

A huge thank you to everyone who made the program possible, including our Elders, schools, presenters and partners. We are especially grateful for the support of Aboriginal Affairs NSW through the NAIDOC Local Grants Program, Wuu-rii Vending through the NSW Indigenous Chamber of Commerce Micro Grant Program, and TACCO Place-Based Partnerships.

πŸŽ₯ Check out some of the highlights in our video.

We're already looking forward to bringing the Youth Leadership Program back and continuing to invest in the next generation of Aboriginal leaders. Based on the enthusiasm and feedback from participants, we know this program is creating meaningful opportunities for young mob to connect, learn, lead and thrive.

Attention future co-worker. Yaama! πŸ‘‹ It's me. The social media person.
We're recruiting for a Health Promotion & Engagement Officer, which means if you get the job, you'll be working closely with me. No pressure. πŸ˜‰
We're looking for someone who can yarn with community, stand up in front of a crowd, jump on camera, help run events, create health campaigns, and explain important health topics without sounding like a university textbook.
You'll be helping turn health information into conversations that make sense. Because nobody has ever said, "You know what I need? More medical jargon."
This role would suit someone with a background in health, community services, education or engagement who is passionate about improving health outcomes for Aboriginal communities.
Most importantly, we're looking for someone who loves people, values culture and community, has plenty of initiative, and isn't afraid to get involved.
βœ… Community engagement
βœ… Health education
βœ… Events & outreach
βœ… Social media & content creation
βœ… Building relationships
βœ… No two days the same
If you've ever thought, "I wish there was a job that combined community, culture, health, creativity and making a genuine difference," this might just be it.
