Have you heard of FND?
I hadn’t imagined it would become part of my life, but earlier this year I was diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder.
It affects everyone differently. For me, it can feel like my whole body shuts down, particularly my left side. I can become unable to move, with symptoms that resemble a stroke.
Mentally, I can feel okay. Frustrated that my body won’t do what I’m asking, but still very much myself inside.
Since sharing my experience, I’ve connected with other women living with it too.
FND is complex, and I can’t speak for what causes someone else’s symptoms. But my experience has made me reflect on how much we expect ourselves to carry, and how little space we leave to receive support.
We’re working, running businesses, raising children and keeping households going.
We’re meant to be at work by 8.30, but school drop-off is at 9.
Work finishes at 5, but school pick-up is at 3.
Then there’s sport, dinner, washing, bills, appointments and remembering everything for everyone.
Even the lunchbox feels like a bloody performance review.
A Vegemite sandwich, a popper and an apple?
Now we’re comparing sushi bowls, carrot sticks and fu***ng hummus dip. 😂
Somewhere in all that caring, organising and providing… where are YOU?
When did you last receive care without organising it for everyone else first?
When did you last have space to feel what’s been sitting beneath “I’m fine”?
The grief you haven’t had room for.
The hurt you keep pushing aside.
The pressure to hold everything together.
The parts of yourself you miss.
My own experience has deepened the intention behind the spaces I create.
From January 14–17, I’m inviting you to four days at O’Reilly’s in the Queensland hinterland, where you get to be supported too. 🌿
We begin with a welcoming ceremony, gently exploring what you’re ready to put down and what you want to welcome into your life.
Through Spinal Flow sessions, meditation, sound healing and reflection, you’ll have opportunities to turn towards yourself with kindness. To acknowledge what you’ve been carrying and explore what letting go could mean for you, at your own pace.
There will be nourishing meals prepared for you. Time in the rainforest. Quiet moments without another task waiting. Connection with people who welcome you as you are.
My intention is for you to leave feeling more connected to yourself, clearer about what you need and supported in choosing what you want to carry forward.
You deserve care because you matter, too.
If you’ve been craving a space where you can finally receive, message me RETREAT. I’d love to talk with you about joining us. 🤍
