Meet Dr Ivan 👋

We thought we’d get to know our newest team member, Dr Ivan, a little better, outside of our clinic.

🚲 One thing you’d never do?
Probably ditch the helmet on a motorbike, bicycle or scooter.

😴 One thing you definitely recommend?
Respect your sleep. You can’t consistently borrow from it without eventually paying it back.

💬 Best advice you’ve ever received?
A surgeon told me back when I was at school: “There’s no such thing as being on time — you’re either early or late.”

🙃 And the worst?
“Sleep when you’re dead.”

🍳 How do you beat stress?
Cook something yummy. I find preparing the ingredients therapeutic, and the whole process shifts my focus away from whatever’s stressing me out. Plus, you get rewarded with a delicious meal at the end!

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 A family tradition you’d like to pass on?
Taking a family trip somewhere beautiful and peaceful — even if it’s just one night away together. I especially love the Coromandel Peninsula back in New Zealand.

👨‍🍳 What did you want to be when you grew up?
A chef! In hindsight, I was probably more interested in eating the food than preparing it.

☕ Something that might surprise people?
I think of myself as pretty unfussy, but I also make my own mineral water for espresso.

🍽️ Favourite local restaurant?
Still working on the list — always on the lookout for suggestions!

🏸 What have you been excited about this week?
Playing badminton at the Sports Dome. Great company and unbeatable value.

🥾 What’s on your bucket list?
The Milford Track in Fiordland National Park.

Even I had a chuckle reading through Dr Ivan’s answers. It’s always nice getting to know the person behind the GP. 😄

We’re thrilled to welcome Dr Ivan to the Tallowwood Health team! 💚

Dr Ivan completed his medical training on the Central Coast, working across Gosford and Wyong before gaining experience in emergency departments throughout Northern NSW and Tasmania. He later returned to Sydney, where he worked at Concord Repatriation General Hospital before making the move into general practice. 🩺

Dr Ivan enjoys taking the time to get to know his patients, listening to what matters to them, and working together to provide practical, evidence-based care.

When he’s not at work, Dr Ivan enjoys staying active with badminton and hiking, trying out new recipes in the kitchen, and practising guitar. He’s also looking forward to exploring Tamworth’s music scene and getting to know the local community. 🌲🥘

This week we celebrate National NAIDOC Week and the opportunity to recognise the history, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The 2026 theme, “50 Years of Deadly,” marks a major milestone, celebrating 50 years of NAIDOC Week and honouring the strength, leadership and legacy of First Nations communities across the country. It’s a reminder of the ongoing story of culture, resilience and pride that continues to be shared across generations. (naidoc.org.au)

At Tallowwood Health, we acknowledge the Kamilaroi (Gamilaraay) people, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we live and work. We pay our respects to Elders past and present, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

As a healthcare practice, we recognise the importance of providing respectful, culturally safe care for everyone in our community. NAIDOC Week is a chance to celebrate, listen, learn and reflect, not just this week, but throughout the year.

A little thank you to our wonderful team today with an appreciation lunch from Miss Ju Ju Tamworth.

General practice is a team effort, and we're fortunate to have such a caring, hardworking group of people at Tallowwood Health. It can be busy, challenging and at times demanding, but our team continues to show up every day, support one another, and do their very best for our patients and community.

We support our patients through good days and difficult days, and we support each other along the way. Much of what our team does happens behind the scenes and often goes unseen, but it makes a difference to so many people in our community.

We know how much effort goes into what happens here each day, and we never take it for granted. We are incredibly grateful for every member of the Tallowwood Health team and proud of the culture we've built together. Thank you for your dedication, kindness, resilience, and for the difference you make every single day.

We're very lucky to have you. 💚

And of course, a special thank you to Miss Juju's for keeping everyone deliciously fed! 💚

King’s Birthday long weekend is just around the corner. 🌿

What a weekend! ☀️👏

A huge congratulations to the Social Trak Club Tamworth on completing the Red Bull Race the Sun, an extraordinary challenge that tested endurance, teamwork and determination from start to finish.

We were proud to support this amazing group as they took on the 355km journey from Currumbin to Tenterfield, representing Tamworth with grit, resilience and plenty of community spirit. We loved following their journey, alongside so many others in our community, and it was fantastic to see a Tamworth team out there taking on such a huge challenge. Finishing in 6th place after 25 hours of racing is no small feat!

To the athletes, support crew and everyone involved, well done on such an incredible effort. Thank you for allowing us to be part of the journey.

It was also wonderful to see so many locals following along, cheering the team on and sharing in the excitement every step of the way.

Congratulations again, team. What a result! Thank you for letting Tallowwood Health be a small part of something so special. 💛

Good luck to the Social Trak Club Tamworth team as they take on the Red Bull Race the Sun challenge this weekend! ☀️🏃

The team stopped by this morning before heading north to begin the huge 355km relay from the Gold Coast to Tenterfield, running day and night over 24 hours. An incredible effort and challenge to take on.

We’re proud to support such a great local team and can’t wait to follow along over the weekend. Wishing you all the very best, hope the legs hold up and the coffees are strong! 💛
