27/08/2026
From 27 August 2026, only the following people can request an unscheduled plan reassessment:
✅ The participant
✅ Their plan nominee
✅ A child representative
A support coordinator or provider can no longer submit the request on the participant’s behalf, even if the participant has given consent.
Support coordinators can still help participants prepare their request, gather information, explain how their circumstances have changed and contact the National Contact Centre for assistance.
An unscheduled reassessment is generally intended for a significant and ongoing change involving:
functional capacity;
living arrangements;
education or employment; or
informal supports.
Short-term or urgent issues may be more appropriately addressed through a plan variation.
The NDIA will have up to 90 days to decide whether to undertake the reassessment.
For most participants, there is no immediate change to their current plan or supports unless the NDIA contacts them directly.
