You know there’s a lot of equipment trialling happening when the equipment rep unpacks his entire truck for a two day stay! 🤣

Working with adults with neurological conditions and complex needs, equipment prescription is a big part of what we do at Compass Allied Health.

Our team has extensive experience in complex seating, wheelchair prescription, mobility and assistive technology. We work closely with clients and families to assess individual needs, trial options and ensure equipment recommendations are clinically appropriate and made at the right time.

We also work with a range of equipment providers to explore different options and find the best solution for each person, rather than taking a one size fits all approach.

Some of the Compass team had the pleasure of attending the White Elephant Ball on Saturday, supporting the incredible work batyr Australia does through its youth mental health programs.

Paediatric Hand Therapy in Tamworth | Assisting Hand Assessment (AHA)

We’re pleased to share that OT Clare has completed her certification in the Assisting Hand Assessment (AHA), expanding our specialised assessment options for children with cerebral palsy (CP) and brachial plexus palsy.

The AHA is a standardised assessment for children aged 18 months to 12 years with unilateral CP or brachial plexus palsy. It looks at how effectively a child uses their affected hand to assist during everyday two handed activities.

The assessment provides valuable insight into a child’s upper limb function, strengths and areas for development. It can also provide objective outcome measures to support NDIS reports, including supporting evidence for plan reviews and recommendations where relevant.

For families and professionals seeking paediatric hand therapy and upper limb assessment in Tamworth and the surrounding region, this is another way we can help identify a child’s needs and guide therapy goals.

Looks like a stroll with poles… look again! 👀

Parkinson’s Disease can affect gait, posture, arm swing, balance and the ability to manage two things at once, among many other motor and non-motor challenges.

Exercise is a cornerstone of Parkinson’s management, with growing evidence for neuroplastic and potentially disease-modifying effects. And it doesn’t have to be complicated or boring!

This overground walking activity with Activator Poles is task-specific, goal-oriented practice, working directly towards this client’s goal.

“To undertake an overseas walking trip and keep pace with his beautiful wife!”

There’s strong evidence supporting exercise and task-specific practice in Parkinson’s. But perhaps most importantly, it has a **WHY**. Because a good goal drives motivation!

They learnt all about different seating options to optimise client safety, comfort, pressure care and postural support and most importantly, participation in the things they love!

Our Gross Motor Group, the Wallabies, have spent the last term moving, learning and having fun! 🦘

From jumping and hopping to balancing, running, catching, throwing and kicking, our little legends have been taking on new challenges and building their skills along the way. Most importantly, they’ve been having lots of fun, sharing plenty of laughs and making new friends! 💙

We love seeing their confidence grow as they discover just how much they can do! 🙌

Our Gross Motor Groups run on Wednesday afternoons after school and are available for two age groups:
🟢 Wallabies, 5–7 years
🔵 Roo’s, 8–12 years

Both groups are friendly, supportive and full of fun!

A fun holiday session with Ava and her ✨favourite ✨ therapist making dog treats for Buddy 🐾🐶🦴

This activity was very hands-on, multisensory, and rich in opportunities for developing functional language. Within a 45 minute session we were able to work on; following instructions, expressive vocabulary, pragmatic and social language as well as narrative and story telling.

A reminder that we can always do therapy within the context of a clients special interests to make it super fun and even more meaningful!
