"What do you actually do in clinic?"
It's one of the most common questions I get in my DMs.
I'm a Myotherapist by trade, and I still use hands-on techniques like deep tissue massage, dry needling, cupping, exercise prescription and stretching when they're needed. They can be incredibly effective.
But over the years I noticed something.
Many clients would get great relief... only to return weeks or months later with the exact same pain.
That question of "Why does this keep coming back?" sent me on a learning journey that's still continuing today.
That's when I discovered functional neurology and began looking at the nervous system instead of just the painful area.
Rather than asking, "Where does it hurt?" I started asking, "Why is the body protecting this area? What is the brain responding to?"
After 18 months of intensive training, I see the same pattern over and over.
Pain is often nowhere near the root cause.
It might be retained primitive reflexes contributing to pain on one side of the body. It might be a child's behavioural or emotional challenges linked to an immature nervous system. It might be a mum who's completely overwhelmed because her nervous system has been running in survival mode for years.
This is the work I love.
Exploring the why, helping the nervous system regulate, and giving the body the opportunity to do what it was designed to do—heal.
If you've tried everything and nothing seems to stick, this might just be the missing piece of the puzzle.
