The transition from tween to teen honestly caught me completely by surprise.
It felt like it happened overnight.
One minute you’re her favourite person. She wants to tell you everything, needs you for everything, and wants you involved in every little part of her world.
Then suddenly…
The bedroom door closes.
Her friends become her world.
She wants more privacy.
She questions everything you say.
And sometimes, it feels like she doesn’t want you anywhere near her.
And honestly?
There can be grief in that.
But I’ve learnt that this stage isn’t about losing your daughter.
It’s about learning how to love her differently.
3 things Mums need to know ❤️
1. Don’t take the pulling away personally.
She’s not necessarily rejecting you. She’s figuring out who she is.
2. Give independence WITH boundaries.
Teenagers need freedom, but they also need safety, structure and someone willing to hold the line when they can’t see the bigger picture yet.
3. Keep the door open.
Even when she pushes you away. Even when she says she doesn’t care. Let her know: “You can always come back to me.”
And Teen Girls…
3 things I want YOU to know 💕
1. Wanting independence is normal.
You’re growing up. You’re supposed to want more freedom and make your own decisions.
2. Your Mum isn’t your enemy.
Sometimes her boundaries are coming from love, even when they feel frustrating.
3. You don’t have to choose between being independent and being close to Mum.
You can grow into your own person AND still need her.
Because one of the most beautiful parts of motherhood is this:
You spend years teaching them to walk away from you…
…and then you get to watch them grow into someone who chooses to walk back.
“Motherhood is learning to loosen your grip without letting go of the relationship — giving her wings, while making sure she always knows where home is.” ❤️
