On Thursday 28 May 2026, Timboon and District Healthcare Service (TDHS) proudly hosted Australiaโ€™s Biggest Morning Tea, bringing members of our community together to support those impacted by cancer.

Held at TDHS, the morning welcomed around 45โ€“50 people, with everyone bringing along a plate to share while enjoying a cuppa, conversation and connection.

We were privileged to hear from four incredibly brave guest speakers who shared their personal experiences with cancer:

๐Ÿ’™ Cheryl Miller spoke about supporting her daughter through melanoma as both a mother and carer.

๐Ÿ’™ Glenda Walker shared the challenges her family has faced since her husbandโ€™s cancer diagnosis last year.

๐Ÿ’™ Janet Goodall spoke openly about her experience battling breast cancer twice while raising her children.

๐Ÿ’™ Rhiannon Perry, one of our own TDHS staff members, courageously shared her recent Stage 3 bowel cancer diagnosis and treatment journey.

There were plenty of emotional moments throughout the morning, along with strength, honesty and hope. Each story was a powerful reminder of why fundraising and support services are so important for those affected by cancer.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, approximately $1,700 was raised for Cancer Council Australia through the event.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, donated, shared their stories and helped make the morning so meaningful.

๐Ÿ“ฃ Patient Update โ€“ Appointment Reminders Timboon Clinic

Our clinic is currently transitioning appointment reminders to the HotDoc reminder system.

During this transition period, patients may experience some changes to the usual appointment reminder process while we work through a few technical issues and fine-tune the system.

We kindly ask for your patience and understanding as we make these improvements.

Thank you for your patience and ongoing support.

Australia has one of the highest rates of food allergies in the world, with almost 2 million Australians living with a food allergy.

The most common allergens are cowโ€™s milk (dairy), egg, peanut, tree nuts, sesame, fish, crustacean, mollusc, wheat and soy. As well as these common allergens, lupin must also be listed on a packaged food label, no matter the amount.

Many other foods including kiwi fruit, banana, chicken, mustard and celery can also cause allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis. There are more than 170 foods known to have triggered allergic reactions.

In Australia, food allergy is common and estimated to affect around 1 in 10 babies, 1 in 20 teens and 1 in 50 adults.

Do you need help with managing a food allergy? Want to make sure your diet is nutritious while avoiding an allergenic food? Or would you simply like some advice on how to introduce allergenic foods to babies when starting solids?

Our Dietitian Casey can help.

Celebrating Our Amazing Volunteers ๐Ÿ’™

Timboon & District Healthcare Service recently hosted a Volunteer Celebration & Recruitment Morning Tea, bringing together current volunteers, staff, community members, and future volunteers to celebrate the incredible role volunteers play in our community.

The morning welcomed 32 attendees, including six Year 12 students interested in volunteering opportunities, and featured inspiring stories from current volunteers about the positive impact volunteering has on both individuals and the wider community.

Weโ€™re excited to share that two new volunteers signed up on the day, with several others taking home volunteer information packs to learn more.

๐Ÿ’œ National Palliative Care Week 2026 ๐Ÿ’œ

This National Palliative Care Week, we pause to recognise the importance of compassionate end-of-life care and the comfort, dignity, and support it brings to individuals and families during some of lifeโ€™s most difficult moments.

โœจ Living well, your way
โœจ Conversation changes everything
โœจ The heart of care

The 2026 campaign encourages honest, human conversations around terminal illness, centred around these important themes.

Palliative care is about more than medical support; it is about listening, understanding, comforting, and ensuring people feel cared for, respected, and never alone.

At Timboon and District Healthcare Service, we are proud to continue strengthening the care we provide close to home for our community. As work continues on our new palliative care room, we are pleased to share another glimpse of this important project, which will create a warm and welcoming space for patients, families, and loved ones.

This week, we also acknowledge the incredible compassion shown every day by our staff, carers, volunteers, and families who walk alongside people through their end-of-life journey with kindness, empathy, and care. ๐Ÿ’œ
