There are some things you can only learn once you become a mum. 🤍

The newborn days can be beautiful but they can also be exhausting, overwhelming and completely different to what you imagined.

This weekly series has been close to my heart for many years — Tips for Surviving the Newborn Days.

This idea actually began during COVID, when so many new mums were navigating those early weeks without their usual village. No visitors, limited support, mothers’ groups cancelled and fewer opportunities for the postnatal care they so desperately needed.

I wanted to find a way to support those mums from afar.

Now, years later, I’ve decided to bring the series back — but with a very special twist.

Each week, I’ll be sharing real tips from clients. Mums who have been through the newborn stage and are willing to share the things they wish they had known, the things that helped them and the reminders they needed to hear along the way.

Because sometimes the best advice isn’t found in a baby book.

It comes from another mum saying:

“I’ve been there. You’re doing okay.” 🤍

This week, I’m sharing Angela’s story and her beautiful reminders to trust yourself, speak up when you need space, embrace your new mum life and accept that some days will be hard.

Save this one for the days you need a little reminder that you’re doing better than you think. 🌿

And follow along each week for more wisdom from the mums who have been there.

In clinic this week 🤍

Another busy week of caring for some very special little people and their mamas.

This week I’ve seen:

✨ A 10-week-old with torticollis, working on improving comfortable movement and head turning.

✨ A 5-week-old with lots of grunting and straining, helping parents understand what’s happening and supporting baby’s comfort.

✨ A 9.5-month-old for a check-up after starting to walk — I love seeing these little milestones! 🥰

✨ A 4-month-old with a head-turning preference, assessing movement and helping encourage more balanced movement.

✨ A 9-week-old who was unsettled with signs of nervous system dysregulation, supporting baby to find a little more calm and comfort.

Every baby is different, and there is never a one-size-fits-all approach. My job is to listen, assess and work gently with each baby and family to understand what they need.

And sometimes, just giving a parent reassurance that what they’re noticing is worth looking at can make all the difference. 🤍

I feel incredibly lucky to do what I do and to be trusted with these precious little people during such an important stage of their development.

💚 Gentle care for every stage.

There are so many reasons why baby’s cry and it can be overwhelming trying to figure it all out 🤷🏼‍♀️.

Babies cry to communicate a need and it can be super frustrating when you try ALL the things and NOTHING seems to work. What’s worse is that babies are often labelled ‘colicky’ or showing signs of ‘purple crying,’ which doesn’t explain WHY their baby is unsettled. Instead parents are often sent away and told their baby’s crying is normal and they just have to wait it out 💔

In my clinic I am so privileged to be able to navigate this difficult time with parents.
By offering solutions to baby’s discomfort and helping them sleep better, you get to enjoy your baby, connect with them more and create happy motherhood memories that last.
So grateful ❤️.

There are days when motherhood feels beautifully put together and days when it feels like everything has completely fallen apart. 🤍

And you know what?

That’s okay.

I still have many difficult moments parenting 3 teenage boys where I feel like everything is too hard, I don’t know what I’m doing and I’m desperately trying to figure things out as I go.

Motherhood isn’t meant to be perfect. There will be days when the washing piles up, dinner is cereal, everyone is overtired, you lose your patience and you wonder how you’re going to do it all again tomorrow.

But just like tacos, sometimes things fall apart — and we still love them. 🌮😂❤️

So if today feels messy, chaotic or a little too much, take a breath.

You haven’t failed.
Your children don’t need a perfect mum.
They need you — real, imperfect, loving and doing your best.

Some days you hold it all together.
Some days you fall apart.
And both are part of motherhood. 💕

Give yourself a little grace today, mama. You’re doing better than you think.

🌿 Tips for surviving the newborn days — from a mama who’s been there

There is no instruction manual for those early weeks and sometimes the best advice doesn’t come from a textbook — it comes from another mum who’s been right where you are. 🤍

This week, Renee, mama of 3, shares the things she wishes she had known during those exhausting newborn days.

Her advice?

✨ The tiredness is not forever. Ride the wave, sleep when you can, and let the housework wait.

✨ Trust your instincts. If something doesn’t feel right, speak up and seek support. You know your baby better than anyone.

✨ Talk to other mums. Finding your village can make such a difference. Sometimes another mum’s experience is exactly the reassurance you need.

✨ Enjoy the little moments. The newborn days can feel incredibly long, but they really do pass so quickly.

This is why I wanted to create this series — to share real advice from real mums. Not perfect advice. Not another list of things you should be doing. Just little pieces of wisdom from mums who have lived it. 💚

If you’re in the newborn trenches right now, save this post for the days when you need the reminder.

And if you’ve been through the newborn days, I’d love to hear from you…

What’s the one piece of advice you’d give a new mum? 👇🏼

In clinic this week 🤍

No two days in clinic are ever the same, and I feel incredibly lucky to work with families through so many different stages of pregnancy, birth and early childhood.

This week I’ve had the privilege of caring for:

✨ A pregnant mama experiencing sciatica following a bout of vomiting.

✨ A 1-week-old baby receiving post-operative bodywork following tongue and lip tie release.

✨ A 5-month-old with gas and upset tummy.

✨ A 5-week-old with silent reflux.

✨ A 4-month-old with a preference for turning their head one way.

Each baby, child and mum comes with their own story, and their care is always individualised to what they need on the day.

Sometimes it’s about addressing a specific concern. Sometimes it’s about supporting recovery and sometimes it’s simply about giving parents reassurance and a little more confidence in understanding their baby’s body.

💚 Gentle care for every stage.

Thank you to all the families who trust me with their care. It truly is a privilege.

The best time to have your baby checked by an osteopath? Often, it’s sooner than parents realise. 🤍

I used to recommend a check up 4-6 weeks after birth but now I recommend much sooner.

Many families wait until feeding becomes difficult, their baby is unsettled, or someone comments on their baby’s head shape or movement.

But the newborn period is an incredible time of growth and adaptation.

A gentle osteopathic assessment shortly after birth can help identify areas of tension that may have developed during pregnancy or birth, while also giving parents reassurance that their baby is transitioning well.

You don’t need a referral.
You don’t need something to be “wrong.”
Sometimes, the greatest benefit is simply knowing your baby is thriving.

Whether your birth was straightforward or more complex, every baby has their own story, and every family deserves support from the very beginning.

One of the most common things I hear in clinic is:

“I wish I’d brought my baby in earlier.”

💚 Early assessment. Gentle hands-on care. Confident parents.

🌿 Surviving the Newborn Days — a new series

This is a series that has been a long time coming. 🤍

During COVID, I was thinking about all the new mums bringing their beautiful babies into the world without the usual village around them. No visitors, limited support, cancelled mothers’ groups and, for many, very little access to the postnatal care they really needed.

I wanted to do something to support them.

So I started sharing tips for surviving the newborn days — simple, honest advice to remind new mums that they weren’t alone and that there was no perfect way to do this.

And now, years later, I’ve decided to bring the idea back… but this time, with a little help from some very special women. 🤍

Each week, I’ll be sharing tips from my past clients — real mums who have been through those beautiful, exhausting, overwhelming newborn days themselves.

Because sometimes the best advice doesn’t come from a book.

It comes from another mum who has been there.

The mum who tells you it’s okay to say no to visitors.
The mum who reminds you that your baby doesn’t have to follow the book.
The mum who tells you to be kind to yourself when the house is a mess and you’re surviving on broken sleep.

These are the things we need to hear more often.

So, welcome to Surviving the Newborn Days. 🌿

A weekly reminder that you’re doing better than you think, you don’t have to do it perfectly, and you don’t have to do it alone.

Breastfeeding isn’t something you have to figure out on your own. 🤍

When feeding is going well, it can feel effortless. But when challenges arise, it’s important to remember that breastfeeding is influenced by many different factors—and no one health professional has all the answers.

The best support comes from a team who work together to care for both you and your baby.

That team might include:
🤍 A lactation consultant (IBCLC) to support latch and positioning.
🤍 A maternal and child health nurse for guidance and reassurance.
🤍 Your GP or paediatrician to assess any medical concerns.
🤍 A paediatric osteopath to assess your baby’s movement, comfort and feeding mechanics.

As an osteopath, I don’t “fix” breastfeeding. My role is to gently assess how your baby is moving and functioning. If I identify areas of tension that may be influencing comfort or feeding, I use gentle hands-on treatment with the aim of improving mobility and supporting your baby’s ability to feed more comfortably. I also work closely with other health professionals because every baby and every breastfeeding journey is unique.

If feeding doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts. You don’t have to wait until you’re exhausted or overwhelmed before asking for help.

💚 The earlier you seek support, the more confident you’ll feel and the more supported your baby can be.

At Bump & Bub Health Hub, I believe the best outcomes happen when experienced professionals work together, with your family at the centre of care.

✨ Because when mums feel supported, babies thrive.
