Well, just like that - I've been tattooing for 15 years.
These tattoo birthdays always creep up on me, and I can never truly find the words to express the amount of gratitude that I have, to even be part of this industry, and to each and every person who's trusted me to bring their ideas to life. With my whole heart - thank you ❤️
I have met so many incredible people over the years, I've had the opportunity to work with my clients and friends to bring together crazy ideas, I've laughed until I've had tears in my eyes, and I've cried when the tattoo was part of life's healing process too. Through the ups and downs, the honour was absolutely always mine, and if a whole is greater than the sum of its parts - then I am nothing without the tattoo industry, the people that came before me, and the people that come with it now.
This industry has changed so much! And it would have grown without me, it doesn't need me, and without it, I am no one - and for that, I am forever grateful and thankful to even have a seat at the table and I have never forgotten that. The greatest way that I can show my gratitude - is to stay grounded, and remember my place, to keep learning, to keep growing, and to keep showing up for my clients day in day out, and to always do the absolute best that I can.
Here's a couple photos from my early days as an apprentice at Second Skin, 15 years later, I still follow a lot of what I was taught back then "learn the rules, and when you master them - then, you can break them". I don't know about the 'master' part - but I've definitely never stopped learning and expanding on those base principles, surrounded by some absolutely incredible artists, I still remember sitting in with my sister hands shaking as I was doing my first tattoo (on her - and yeah she did half of it herself guiding me through it....which 15 years ago - was mental), I remember admiring Dan and Adrian's oriental and horror pieces in awe just the next bay over, and I'll always remember sitting in with Les, and soaking in every single word of wisdom that he had.
I got to sit on the shoulders of absolute giants.
I am forever grateful, and forever a student to this incredible industry - I promise ❤️
