💭 Things I Wish People Knew About the NDIS

The NDIS can be confusing, overwhelming, and at times incredibly frustrating.

One thing I’ve learnt through supporting participants and families is that so many people are trying to navigate a complex system while also managing everyday life, appointments, therapies, paperwork and everything else that comes with it.

I wish more people knew that it’s okay to ask questions.

I wish more people knew that they have choices.

I wish more people knew that if something doesn’t feel right, they can speak up.

And most importantly, I wish more people knew that they don’t have to do it alone.

Behind every NDIS plan is a person with goals, dreams and challenges that deserve to be understood and respected.

Swipe through to read a few things I wish more people knew about the NDIS 💙what would you add to the list?

Yesterday was one of those moments that reminded me why representation matters.

Thank you to Able Community Support Services for inviting us to the Cowboys game.

Seeing the Townsville All Abilities League Tag players out on the field and seeing International Myasthenia Gravis Awareness Month displayed on the big screen was something I didn’t expect to be so emotional.

For many families living with disability or complex medical conditions, feeling seen can be rare. Yesterday, thousands of people saw disability celebrated, recognised and included.

Thank you to the Cowboys for creating a game day experience that truly embraces everyone. 💙

Disability parent, guardian, carer tired hits different.

It’s remembering appointments while making dinner.
It’s writing emails at midnight.
It’s fighting systems that shouldn’t be this hard.
It’s worrying about your child’s future while trying to enjoy the present.

And somehow, despite being completely exhausted, you keep showing up.

Because that’s what parents, guardians, carers do.

✨ LET’S TALK. ✨
Too often, people make assumptions about disability without ever hearing from the people actually living it.

Today, I want to hand the microphone over to YOU. 🎤💜

What’s one thing about your disability, chronic illness, neurodivergence, or lived experience that you wish people understood?

Maybe it’s:
🌸 That not all disabilities are visible.
🌸 That being “high functioning” doesn’t mean things are easy.
🌸 That accessibility benefits everyone.
🌸 That kindness goes a long way.
Whatever it is, we want to hear it.

👇 Drop your answer in the comments and let’s create a space where people can learn directly from lived experience.

Sometimes the people who look the most “together” is the ones melting on the inside.

Don't forget to check in with those who seem fine.

Friday I attended the North Queensland Disability Alliance (NQDA) official launch — a space dedicated to bringing together people with disability, families, carers, advocates, providers and community supports to have honest conversations about the future of the disability sector in North Queensland. 🤍

What I loved most about the event was the focus on connection, inclusion and lived experience. The NQDA is working to create a stronger, more collaborative disability community across rural, regional and remote North Queensland — making sure voices are heard, resources are shared and people feel genuinely supported.

As both a Support Coordinator and a mother to a child with additional needs, being part of these conversations means a lot to me. Advocacy isn’t just something I do in business — it’s personal.

There is so much power in bringing people together in one room to openly discuss the realities families and participants face every day, while also focusing on solutions, accessibility and creating meaningful change for the future. 🌸

Thank you to the North Queensland Disability Alliance for creating a welcoming space where every voice matters.
