Ever wondered where the name Varia came from? 💭

It’s a question we’ve been asked a few times, so we thought we’d share the story behind our name.

Varia was inspired by the ideas of variation and adaptability. Two principles that sit at the heart of Occupational Therapy.

No two people are the same. No two environments are the same. And no two journeys look exactly alike.

That’s why our approach is individual too. Adapting our support, recommendations and solutions to what matters to each person and how they want to live.

At the heart of Varia is a simple goal:

Empowering people to live well, wherever they are. 💛

Celebrating creativity at Varia ✨

We’re privileged to share a beautiful poem written by one of our clients.

Creativity can be such a powerful way to express our thoughts, experiences and perspectives. And sometimes words on a page can communicate something in a way nothing else quite can.

At Varia, we value the stories, creativity and individual voices of the people we support, and we’re grateful to be able to share this piece with you. 💛

We hope you enjoy reading it as much as we did.

Shared with permission.

Another successful wheelchair delivery! 👏

There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing the end result after working closely with a participant and their family to achieve the best possible outcome.

Assessed, and prescribed by Occupational Therapist Shelby. From the initial functional capacity assessment through to detailed pressure care and postural assessments, every step of this journey was focused on finding the right seating and mobility solution to maximise comfort, function, independence, and participation.

This participant was fitted with a Ki Mobility Liberty FT folding tilt-in-space manual wheelchair, featuring:
✨ Dreamline STX2 Cushion
✨ Spex Manta Back Support
✨ Medifab Octopus Head Positioning System

Together, this setup provides improved trunk support, pressure management, postural alignment, and functional positioning to support the participant’s daily activities and quality of life.

A huge thank you to Lissa Caddies, Assistive Technology Professional from Independent Living Specialists for your expertise and collaboration throughout the assessment, prescription, fitting, and delivery process. Working together always leads to the best outcomes for our participants.

Congratulations to this wonderful family on reaching their seating and mobility goals, we’re so excited to see the difference this new wheelchair will make in everyday life.

Walk to Defeat MND Townsville 2026! 💙💙

Today, the Varia Allied Health team proudly joined the Walk to Defeat MND. This is an event we attend each year to show our support for people living with Motor Neurone Disease, their families, carers, and the organisations working tirelessly to improve outcomes and find a cure.

MND is a devastating and progressive disease that impacts every aspect of a person’s life. At Varia Allied Health, we are passionate about supporting individuals living with MND to maintain independence, participation, comfort, and quality of life through timely occupational therapy intervention, assistive technology, and personalised support.

The weather certainly turned it on for everyone today, making for a fantastic morning to come together as a community. Events like this are a powerful reminder of the strength, resilience, and courage shown by those living with MND every day. We are honoured to walk alongside our community, raise awareness, and contribute to the ongoing fight against this cruel disease.

Together, we can make a difference. 💙

💜 This One Fills Our Cup 💜

Some outcomes are particularly rewarding, and this was one of them.

OT Shelby recently travelled to Charters Towers to complete an outreach assessment for a participant whose goal was to safely and independently access her property, care for her animals, participate in outdoor activities and assist with property maintenance.

Following a previous NDIS funding decline, the participant engaged Varia Allied Health to complete a reassessment and assist with a new Assistive Technology application.

After comprehensive assessment, clinical justification and extensive equipment trials on the participant’s property, we were delighted to achieve a successful funding outcome.

A huge thank you to Independent Living Specialists, particularly James and Lissa, for their collaboration, expertise and support throughout the process. We couldn’t have done it without you!

The final prescription included:
• Magic Mobility XT4
• Dreamline STX 2 Cushion
• Spex Manta Back Support

The result? Greater independence, safer mobility across outdoor terrain, and the opportunity to participate in the activities that matter most.

And how good are those colours? 💜

This is exactly why we do what we do.
