Vitality Holistic Nutrition Holistic Nutritionist providing women with nutritional support through all of life's stages

I’m Carmelle Robinson, Holistic Nutritionist with a Bachelor of Health Science in Nutritional Medicine – so you bet I know the body inside and out! I’m in love with the process of natural medicine because I help patients get to the root cause of their problems. I don’t just treat symptoms (that’s called a band-aid fix), I get down to the core issue of your symptoms and treat them accordingly. This

is the most effective way to manage health conditions, for long term benefits. As a Holistic Nutritionist I look at all aspects of your health, not just diet and exercise, in order to gain a proper understanding of your health. Your health is my puzzle, and in order to put all of the pieces together, I ask a lot of questions about a broad range of topics including digestion, sleep, hormones, work, stress etc. Because health is individual, it is not generic – you are not the same as everybody else, you are your own person. This is why I treat everyone as an individual, and come up with a health plan to suit your specific needs. After a few years of practicing and helping a range of patients, I found my passion in women’s health. Women are often dismissed & overlooked when they present their concerns to their medical practitioners. I quickly realised that nutrition is an effective way to help support women’s health and as a result, have many happy women leaving my office.

Let me show you why I'm different.

Let me share my passion and knowledge with you.

I’m a Nutritionist with a holistic approach, the time to listen and knowledge that goes above & beyond the food pyramid.

Let me show you how to choose health and not diets. How to nourish not only your body, but your soul.

Let me submerge you in the power of holistic nutrition.

Somewhere along the way, looking after our health became another thing we’re supposed to be 'good at'.

Eat perfectly. Exercise every day. Get enough sleep. Meal prep. Take your supplements. Get up at 4am for your morning routine. Drink enough water. Manage your stress. Look after your family. Look after yourself. Make sure you drink enough water.

Meanwhile, most women I know are just trying to get through the week with everyone fed, bathed and cooperative.

And I think this year’s Women’s Health Week message is such an important one:

✨You don’t need to do everything perfectly. Small things, done consistently, matter ✨

I’m a Nutritionist and I can tell you my meals aren’t always beautifully balanced. I don’t have an elaborate 5am morning routine (I refuse to sacrifice sleep unless I really have to). Some weeks I exercise less than I'd like to and I can tell you my water intake definitely varies from day to day. Life happens.

Health has to actually fit into your life, otherwise, what’s the point?

Sometimes looking after yourself is making sure you eat breakfast. Going for a 10 minute walk. Getting to bed a little earlier. Adding some veggies to whatever you were already making for dinner. Or finally making that appointment you’ve been meaning to make for six months.

None of it is particularly fancy. But those boring, everyday things? They add up!

So this Women’s Health Week, instead of thinking about everything you should be doing, pick one small thing you can realistically do for yourself.

What’s yours?

If you struggle with low iron, there are a few things I really want you to know (that you might have never been told!).

You don’t need to give up your morning coffee. You don’t need to put up with an iron supplement that makes you feel awful (*coughferrogradcough*). And eating iron rich foods is great, but how well you’re absorbing that iron matters just as much.

Most importantly, feeling better doesn’t always mean the job is done. Rebuilding your iron stores takes time, and following up your bloods is an important part of knowing whether what you’re doing is actually working.

Low iron can be frustrating, especially when you feel like you’re doing all the right things and your levels still won’t budge.

Sometimes it’s about making a few small changes. Sometimes we need to look a little deeper at why your iron is low in the first place.

Either way, you deserve more guidance than “just take an iron supplement.”

PSA: Low iron isn’t a personality trait!! And “yeah, my iron is always low” shouldn’t be accepted as normal.

Ladies, we need to stop accepting feeling exhausted as just part of life.

If you’ve spent years feeling tired, foggy, flat, relying on coffee to get through the afternoon or wondering why everyone else seems to have more energy than you… it’s worth asking a few more questions.

Because when iron keeps dropping, simply taking another course of iron may only be addressing part of the problem.

I want to know WHY.

Are you losing iron through heavy periods or another source of blood loss?
Are you actually getting enough through your diet?
Have your requirements increased?
Could something be affecting absorption?
Are you taking the right supplement, at the right dose, in a way that supports absorption?
And importantly did your iron stores actually recover and stay there?

I also don’t look at ferritin as one lonely little number on a pathology report. Your blood results, symptoms, periods, diet, gut health and what your levels have been doing over time all help build the bigger picture.

And yes, you can be iron deficient without being anaemic and still be symptomatic!

So if having low iron has somehow become one of your fun facts…

Nope. We’re investigating that.

You don’t get bonus points for dragging yourself through the day exhausted.

You could be feeling so much better!

If your iron or ferritin keeps dropping and you want someone to actually dig into the why, you can book a nutrition consultation via the link in my bio 👆🏽

You came in to talk about low iron and suddenly I'm asking about your p**p, periods, sleep, energy and half your life history 😆

But there's a reason I ask. Low iron for example, I don't just want to know if you're getting enough from your food. I need know:

Are heavy periods contributing to significant iron loss?
Are digestive symptoms an indicator of malabsorption?
Are your tea and coffee habits hindering your ability to absorb iron?
Are you eating enough haeme and non haeme foods?
Are your requirements higher at this stage of life?
How long have you been on supplements? Are they the right type of iron?
What is preventing you from breaking down, absorbing and putting your iron into storage?

Because nutrition isn't just about looking at what you eat and handing you a generic list of advice.

Your symptoms, blood results, menstrual cycle, digestion, medications, supplements and lifestyle can all help build a bigger picture of what might be going on.

Sometimes the most important question isn't 'what else can we add?' it's actually 'why is this happening in the first place?'

And yes, it probably means we're going to talk about your poo 💩

If you’re hungry again 30 minutes after eating breakfast, it doesn’t mean you lack willpower.

And it doesn’t mean you need to get better at ignoring your hunger.

Sometimes… your breakfast just wasn’t enough.

A piece of toast, a small bowl of oats or some fruit might technically be breakfast, but it may not have enough protein, fibre, healthy fats or overall energy to actually keep you satisfied.

The good news? You probably don’t need to completely change what you’re eating.

Just build on it!

Keep the yoghurt → add fruit, nut based granola & chia seeds
Keep the toast → add eggs, tomato & avocado.
Keep the porridge → add chi seeds, LSA, nut butter & fruit
Keep the coffee (and good vibes) → add a banana & nut bar

And if you’ve added all the things and you’re still hungry?

That's where I come in to help troubleshoot.

Hunger isn’t a failure of willpower. It’s your body communicating with you and sometimes it really is as simple as needing a bigger breakfast, other times we need to look at the bigger picture.

There are plenty of things I care about when it comes to nutrition.

The sugar in your banana is not one of them.

Neither is the frozen broccoli you microwaved for dinner, the pasta you ate last night, or the fact that sometimes dessert is just… actual dessert.

I’m much more interested in the bigger picture.

Are you eating enough?
Are you getting some variety?
Are you eating foods that actually nourish you?
And, importantly, is the way you’re eating realistic enough to survive work, kids, busy weeks and general life chaos?

Because healthy eating shouldn’t require a Sunday afternoon meal-prep marathon, a pantry full of expensive “superfoods” or a minor breakdown because you ate a piece of cake.

Good nutrition doesn’t need to be perfect. It needs to work in real life and fuel your body for the stage of life you're in.

Eat well most of the time. Enjoy your food. Get on with your life.

That’s the kind of nutrition I’m interested in.

A few things I find myself saying in clinic over and over again…

Women’s health and nutrition doesn’t need to be complicated, restrictive or based on whatever is trending online this week.

A lot of the conversations I have are actually about getting back to the basics, making sure you’re eating enough and figuring out what your body actually needs.

Nothing particularly glamorous. No fads, no 35 step wellness routines. Just real advice, for real life.

Swipe across to see Serious me vs. actual me 😂

These two photos from the Belly, Birth & Beyond Expo pretty much sum me up.

The first is me in my element, having the kinds of conversations I love, breaking down the science, busting the myths and helping women understand the why behind what they're putting into their bodies.

The second? Also me.

The one who laughs too much, gets excited talking about nutrition & women's health, pulls funny faces and wants to make your appointment feel more like a conversation than an interrogation.

I absolutely have a professional side. I take my work incredibly seriously. But I don't become a completely different person when you walk into my clinic.

I'm still me.

The same person you see here is the same person you'll meet in a consultation. I'll laugh with you, celebrate your wins with you, cry with you and if you're feeling overwhelmed, I'll meet you where you're at without judgement.

Because I don't think you need another practitioner who makes you feel like you're being lectured.

You deserve someone who listens first, explains things in a way that actually makes sense, and helps you build a plan that fits your real life.

No pretending. No impossible expectations. Just honest conversations, realistic advice and a little bit of laughter along the way.

My heart is so full 🩷

Yesterday, we watched something that started as an idea become a reality.

The Belly, Birth & Beyond Expo was created because we knew Gippsland families deserved better access to local support, education and connection. To finally see the doors open and watch hundreds of people walk through, meeting local businesses and healthcare professionals who are genuinely passionate about supporting mothers, babies, children and families, was incredibly special.

As one of the co-founders, I couldn't be prouder of what our committee (AKA the dream team) achieved. There were plenty of moments where this felt like a huge task, but seeing it all come together made it all worthwhile.

I have so many favourite moments throughout the day including seeing conversations and connections happen. Families discovering services they never knew existed, businesses connecting with one another and seeing our community coming together under one roof.

Thank you to every exhibitor, speaker, volunteer, business who donated prizes, special people behind the scenes and every single person who came along. You helped turn our vision into something so much bigger than we imagined!

I have no doubt this is only the beginning and I can't wait to see how this event continues to grow and support Gippsland families for years to come 💗💗💗
