All things go back to the mother...🌿

I help mums every week see how important it is to care for you body and nurture yourself after birth.

While you're expected to throw yourself into caring for a new fragile life head first, don't forget yourself.

All mama's need rest, love and safety — and what a gift to give ourselves by finding even the smallest ways to prioritised our recovery after birth.

If you want to know what support could look like for you, check out the link in my bio to explore doula support for after birth assistance or explore upcoming master-classes to rethink how you see postpartum recovery.

"I didn't know I need to care about myself so much after birth" was a comment from a mama after my masterclass.

It was a reality check. Postpartum and life after babies is a huge change — and society is ill prepared for it.

We teach mothers that baby always comes first and whilst a mother will go to the ends of the earth to love and care for her child in great tiredness, it does not take away how unsafe the dynamic is.

Mothers deserve to feel seen, heard, acknowledged and rested as they evolve.

Mothers deserve to take up space without it being all about the baby after birth. Whether that is with nutrition being at the centre of their care, a regard for their mental welfare, a safe environment to voice concern — mothers deserve a podium to share their needs.

It's crazy that this is the knowledge we have and yet, motherhood is still not safer.

We want a world full of happy families and giggling babies — but we cannot protect mothers from the deep pits of despair they may ensure to bring life to the world.

We must have this conversation.

It's not optional.

Motherhood has long been praised as the ultimate sacrifice — and it is in many ways.

But do we have the right to tell mother's that their needs don't matter anymore because the baby is here?

We pressure mother's to give all to the point of being depleted, exhausted and unwell. We portray motherhood as an empty cup that is poured from up until the kids leave the nest, and then we wonder why there is so much suffering being experienced by mother's.

The body can only hold strong for so long when running on so little.

Postpartum is not the time to sacrifice the mother's safety or well-being.

When mothers flock to forums, under anonymity, in shame, we hear them.

Mama's who feel lost after having children, mama's who are struggling with their own traumas and battles, mama's feeling broken in their relationships after giving birth — the grief that compounds birth.

We have to undo the shame of "bad" motherhood to encourage a safer future for mama's. A safer mama leads to a safer home for a new baby. We must undo the silence of not being safe enough to say out loud how motherhood can bring about profound changes — one's we never expected.
