Last week I attended the All Abilities Gala Day run by the Wanderers, and something happened that stopped me in my tracks.

A boy I’d met at the last event came sprinting over to me, full of excitement, beaming from ear to ear. He remembered my name. He remembered us kicking the ball together last time.

I’ll be honest, I’d forgotten his name. But I hadn’t forgotten him.

He looked up at me and asked if I’d go kick the ball with him again.

That moment right there is exactly why we do what we do. No title, no paperwork, no KPI, just a kid who felt seen enough to remember, and to come back.

I said yes. I always will.

To every person we support, you matter more than you know. And we don’t take a single moment with you for granted.

This is why having the right mentor, coach is important. Someone who is proactive and keeps us updated as soon as the information comes to hand. Someone who is proactive and not waits a week or two to keep us updated, because every minute counts.

Someone who have walked the walk, has run an NDIS business, has personal experience, understands how important the changes are and how it will affect providers. If are thinking about finding a mentor, a coach in my opinion Vanessa Norman is your go too. She knows the industry inside out, is the one stop shop from auditing, systems and processes, connecting with the right people in this sector and much more.

If you haven’t been to one of her events or seminars then it’s a must for any provider who is serious about this industry. Vanessa truly cares about the sector, it’s never been about numbers but a passion for wanting and helping the right providers with the correct intentions in this industry.

This is what a real mentor and coach looks like. Someone who is proactive not reactive. If you want to be kept out do date follow her on her you tube channel and social media platforms.

Some SIL changes came out yesterday and within an hour a video was done by Vanessa. Click on the link below for updated information.

Lisa and I made a quick trip to the Gold Coast for Vanessa Norman's systems and automation training — and every minute was worth it. 🙌

What made it even better? Meeting and connecting with some amazing providers from different sectors. A reminder of how powerful it is to step outside your own industry and gain a fresh perspective.

No matter how long you've been in business, never stop learning. Investing in yourself is investing in your business and your team.

And here's what I've learned — it's not about how many bums you put on seats. It's about the people in the room and the quality of the content being delivered.

Align with mentors and coaches who genuinely connect with you, challenge you, and support your growth. Find your people. Keep learning. Keep growing.

At Elite Care NSW and Lisa Cordi - Elite Care Central Coast. . we believe that truly great support changes lives, not just daily routines.

Lisa and I started Elite Care NSW/ Central Coast because this isn’t just an industry to us , it’s personal.

My niece was born with cerebral palsy, and my brother in law is autistic and non-verbal.

Watching them navigate life, Lisa and I saw how transformative the right support could be, and how devastating the wrong support, or no support at all, could feel for a family.

We watched our family fight for consistency, for dignity, for people who actually showed up, not just physically, but emotionally.

That stayed with us. And eventually, it moved us to act.

Lisa brings over 20 years of experience in the disability and care sector, she has dedicated her career to advocating for and supporting people with complex needs.

Together, we built Elite Care NSW/ Central Coast because we wanted to create the kind of organisation we wished had existed for our family. One where participants are treated as individuals, not numbers. Where families feel heard. Where support workers are chosen not just for their skills, but for their heart.

We provide a full range of disability and aged care services across Sydney and the Central Coast, including:

âś… In-home & personal care
âś… Community participation & social support
âś… Complex needs support
âś… Respite care
âś… Daily living assistance
âś… Supported independent living (SIL)
âś… Transport & aged care services

We don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach. Every person we support has a unique story, unique goals, and unique needs, and we build our care around that. Our team is passionate, experienced, and genuinely invested in the people they work with.

We’re not just a service provider. We’re a community.

Whether you’re a participant, a family member, or a referrer looking for a team you can trust — we’d love to connect.

Finding the right people is everything. đź’™

Building a team in disability and aged care isn't just about skills on a resume; it's about finding people who genuinely want to make a difference in someone else's life. People who show up not because it's a job, but because they care.

That search isn't easy. It takes time, patience, and a willingness to wait for the right fit rather than settle for the quick one.

At Elite Care NSW/ Lisa Cordi - Elite Care Central, we feel like we've finally found exactly that, and we couldn't be more grateful.

From our support workers on the ground to our office team keeping everything running behind the scenes, and the management holding it all together, every single person plays a vital role. They bring dedication, compassion, and a real commitment to the people we support. Watching them work reminds us every day why we started this journey in the first place.

Because of them, we're able to focus on growing and improving the business, knowing that the people we care for are in the very best hands.

To our incredible team: thank you. You don't just work for Elite Care NSW/Central Coast; you are Elite Care NSW/Central Coast. We see you, we appreciate every one of you, and we are so proud of what we're building together. 🙏

One thing I’ve learnt is that having a day off when you truly don’t feel it is important.

In this sector, we give a lot of ourselves every day. We support people through challenges, emotions, routines, behaviours, appointments and life itself. But sometimes we forget that we are human too.

There are days mentally and emotionally you are just drained. And on those days, taking a step back, resetting and looking after yourself is not weakness it’s responsibility.

Because if we don’t look after ourselves, eventually we can’t give the level of care, patience and energy the people we support deserve.

Burnout in this sector is real. Support workers, coordinators, nurses, providers, leaders everyone can feel it. Sometimes the strongest thing you can do is recognise you need a break before you hit empty.

A day off can recharge your mind, your energy and your passion for why you started in the first place.

Looking after others is important.
But looking after yourself matters too.

And today is one of those days for me

How do you reset when you know you need a break?

Did you know Elite Care supports participants with physical disabilities too?

We’re proudly known across the Central Coast and Sydney for our work in the mental health space — and we wear that with pride.
But here’s something we want more people to know:

We also work with participants living with physical disabilities, and our team is genuinely experienced in this space.
Our support workers bring hands-on expertise, patience, and real skill to complex physical support needs — whether that’s personal care, mobility assistance, daily living, or community access.

Every participant deserves a team that truly gets their needs. At Elite Care, we make sure of that — regardless of whether those needs are mental, physical, or both.
If you or someone you know is looking for experienced, compassionate NDIS support on the Central Coast or across Sydney, we’d love to have a conversation.

One of our recent success stories reminded Lisa and I why building trust and relationships in this sector matters so much.

When we first met this individual, being around crowds especially larger crowds was something they found very difficult and overwhelming. But one thing we noticed straight away was their love for photography and singing.

The other day, there was a big community event happening and for the first time they wanted to attend so they could take photos of the event. Watching them walk into that environment with confidence was such an amazing achievement and a moment we were incredibly proud of.

Now, most Wednesday nights, they love attending karaoke and even get up in front of everyone to sing. We’ve been told they have a fantastic voice too.

Moments like this don’t happen overnight. They take time, patience, trust, consistency, and genuine relationships with support workers who take the time to understand the person behind the support.

As providers, it’s our responsibility to make sure we match the right support worker to walk alongside individuals, encourage them at their own pace, and create an environment where they feel safe enough to step outside their comfort zone.

Sometimes what may seem like a small step to others can actually be a life-changing achievement for the individual. Those are the moments that make this work so rewarding. ❤️

Should unregistered independent support workers charge the same hourly rate as registered providers?

This might stir a few conversations but it’s one we need to have.

On paper, the hourly rate might look the same.
But behind that number? Two completely different worlds.

Registered providers aren’t just “charging for support.”
They’re carrying the weight of:
Compliance and audit requirements
Insurance, systems, and safeguarding processes
Ongoing staff training and development
Superannuation, leave, and award obligations
Rostering teams, after-hours support, and risk management
Accountability to participants, families, and the NDIS

Then there’s another layer we don’t talk about enough…

Experience.

We’re now seeing situations where:
Highly experienced support workers
New workers with little to no experience
are charging the exact same hourly rate.

This isn’t about putting anyone down — everyone starts somewhere.
But in a sector where:
Participants have complex needs
Risk is real
Outcomes matter

Experience isn’t just a bonus, it’s critical.

Independent support workers absolutely play an important role in this sector. Many are passionate and do incredible work.

But the reality is:
The overheads are different
The accountability is different
The risk is different
And yes, the experience levels are often very different

So the question isn’t who is better.

It’s about fairness, transparency, and value.

If two services look the same on a price guide but one carries significantly more responsibility, structure, and experience

Should they really be priced the same?

Or are we getting to a point where participants can’t clearly see what they’re actually paying for?

Curious to hear from others in the sector —
Do you think pricing should reflect experience and accountability more clearly?
