It looks like a facial. Mechanically, it's closer to a device treatment.

When you have a Hydrafacial, there are three important steps.

The surface is cleansed and exfoliated. Congestion is drawn out of the pores by suction rather than squeezed out under pressure.

Then serums are applied while the skin is still receptive, which is the step that most often gets skipped in a standard facial. It maintains a barrier that's already working and keeps congestion from building.

It is not a resurfacing treatment, it won't restructure the skin, and it isn't a substitute for one if that's what your skin actually needs.

Afterwards, some redness and tightness for a few hours is normal, and skin prone to congestion sometimes surfaces a little in the days following.

Nobody expects to like this one.

Buccal massage is performed from inside the mouth. Gloved, and considerably stranger to describe than it is to experience, which is why most people book it hesitantly and rebook it without being asked.

The reason it's done that way is straightforward. The muscles that hold facial tension sit underneath everything a standard facial massage can reach. From the outside, you're working over the top of them. From the inside, you're working on them directly.

That tension builds long before it shows up visibly, which is why releasing it at the source is a different proposition from relaxing the skin above it. Over a course of sessions, it can support circulation, muscle relaxation and a more sculpted appearance.

It isn't seasonal, and it isn't a one-off. It works better as a regular part of a routine than as something saved for a particular month.

The shift starts before the season does. By the time spring actually feels different outside, skin's usually already been telling you for a few weeks, turnover speeding up, barrier needs changing, anything left over from winter becoming more obvious.

Upkeep at this point is less about overhauling your routine and more about small, timely adjustments, SPF back in daily rotation, checking whether your barrier can handle what you're already using, easing back into actives rather than restarting all at once.

You can drink three litres a day and layer on the richest moisturiser you own, and still have skin that reads as dehydrated.

That's because hydration isn't really a supply problem. It's a retention one.

Water is constantly moving up through your skin and evaporating off the surface.

what determines how much stays put is your barrier, the layer of lipids and natural oils holding everything together.

When that barrier is intact, water stays where it's useful. When it's worn down, it leaves faster than anything you apply can replace it.
