🏆 CELEBRATING EXCELLENCE IN ALLIED HEALTH | EXPRESSIVE MIND THERAPY 💜

A proud and significant occasion for Expressive Mind Therapy, as our Directors, Kellie and Nathan Darvill, attend the prestigious Australian Allied Health Awards in Adelaide, both recognised as finalists in their respective award categories.

This national recognition is a testament to their exceptional leadership, professional dedication and unwavering commitment to improving the lives of individuals, families and communities through high-quality, compassionate and person-centred allied health services.

As both life partners and business partners, Kellie and Nathan have worked tirelessly to build Expressive Mind Therapy into an organisation that places people, advocacy, clinical excellence and community connection at the heart of everything it does.

Their leadership extends far beyond the day-to-day operations of a growing allied health organisation. They continue to champion accessibility, advocate for individuals navigating complex support systems, invest in the professional development of their team and challenge barriers that prevent people from receiving the services they deserve.

To be individually recognised on a national stage is an extraordinary achievement. To share that recognition together, while representing the organisation they have built, makes this occasion even more special.

Their journey reflects the values that underpin Expressive Mind Therapy: integrity, compassion, collaboration, inclusion and a genuine commitment to making a meaningful difference.

Regardless of the awards outcome, being named finalists alongside some of Australia’s most respected allied health professionals is an achievement worthy of celebration.

👏 Congratulations, Kellie and Nathan!

Your passion, determination and commitment to your staff, clients and the broader community are an inspiration. Thank you for leading with purpose, advocating with courage and continually striving to raise the standard of allied health services.

From a regional community to a national stage, this recognition demonstrates that meaningful leadership and exceptional care can make an impact well beyond where an organisation begins.

We are incredibly proud to have you both representing Expressive Mind Therapy in Adelaide.

💜 Two Directors. Two National Finalists. One Shared Vision — Making a Difference.

💚 Choose curiosity over judgement.

When we see behaviour that challenges us, take a moment to pause and ask “I wonder why?” can help us respond differently.

Instead of making assumptions, we can consider:
🌱 What might this person be experiencing?
💬 What might they be trying to communicate?
🧠 What support might they need right now?

A curious and compassionate approach helps us move from simply reacting to behaviour to understanding the person.

At Expressive Mind Therapy, we believe meaningful support starts with listening, understanding, and seeing the individual—not just the behaviour.

Understanding is a powerful form of support.

🏆💜 ADELAIDE BOUND | CELEBRATING NATIONAL RECOGNITION! 💜🏆

An incredibly proud and exciting moment for Expressive Mind Therapy!

Today, our Directors, Kellie and Nathan Darvill, are heading to Adelaide to proudly represent Expressive Mind Therapy, our wonderful community and their family at the prestigious 2026 Australian Allied Health Awards Gala!

We are absolutely thrilled to celebrate their recognition as national finalists in two categories:

🏅 Kellie Darvill – Allied Health Early Career Excellence

🏅 Nathan Darvill – Counsellor of the Year

Being recognised on a national stage alongside some of Australia’s most respected allied health professionals is an extraordinary achievement. But what makes this occasion even more special is that Kellie and Nathan are celebrating this milestone together, not only as business partners and Directors, but as husband and wife. 💜

Since establishing Expressive Mind Therapy, their shared vision has been to create more than just an allied health business. They have worked tirelessly to build an organisation grounded in compassion, clinical excellence, genuine advocacy and a commitment to making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

Their journey has been one of determination, resilience, sacrifice and an unwavering belief that everyone deserves access to quality care, support and a voice when navigating complex systems.

To have both Directors recognised among Australia’s leading allied health professionals is a remarkable achievement and a proud moment for our entire organisation.

Beyond the awards themselves, Kellie and Nathan are looking forward to connecting with exceptional professionals from across Australia, sharing knowledge, building relationships and celebrating the incredible work happening throughout the allied health sector.

🏆 Of course, bringing home an award would be wonderful, but being named national finalists is already something worth celebrating!

Regardless of tomorrow night’s outcome, one thing will never change: our commitment to our clients, our community and our mission to deliver exceptional, person-centred allied health services.

To our incredible team, the individuals and families who trust us with their care, our professional partners and the communities that continue to support Expressive Mind Therapy — thank you for being part of our journey.

We couldn’t be prouder of Kellie and Nathan, and we wish them both the very best as they take their places among Australia’s allied health finalists.

💜 From our regional beginnings to the national stage — proof that passion, hard work and a genuine commitment to helping others can create extraordinary opportunities.

🔎 What if we looked beyond the behaviour?

What we see on the outside may only be one part of the story.

A person may be feeling:
😣 Overwhelmed by their environment
💬 Unable to communicate what they need
🧠 Still developing a skill needed to manage the situation
🏡 Affected by their surroundings or changes in routine

Positive Behaviour Support looks beyond the behaviour to understand what may be happening underneath and how we can provide meaningful support.

The goal isn't simply to change behaviour. It's to help people feel understood, build skills, have their needs met, and participate more fully in everyday life. 💚

💜 DLD. IN ITS OWN RIGHT. 💜
Today we are celebrating a very hard-fought win.
With Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) Awareness Day coming up on 16 October, the timing of this news feels particularly significant.

After a long road of evidence, reviews, advocacy and persistence, a young person we have had the privilege of supporting has finally been accepted for access to the NDIS for the neurodevelopmental impairment arising from Developmental Language Disorder.

DLD. In its own right.
This has been a hard slog advocating for something that should be far easier to recognise.

DLD is a lifelong neurodevelopmental disability. Its impact doesn't stop at “speech and language”. Language underpins learning, relationships, emotional expression, self-advocacy, decision-making, independence, employment and participation in everyday life.
And yet, this family has had to fight incredibly hard for those impacts to be recognised.

There were reports. Reviews. More evidence. Difficult conversations. Setbacks. And plenty of moments where it would have been completely understandable to say, we can't keep doing this.
But they kept going.
His family kept advocating.
His team kept showing up.
And most importantly, he kept going.
We are incredibly proud of every professional who contributed evidence and expertise, and of a family who refused to give up when the process became exhausting.

But today, more than anything, we celebrate him.
Because behind every application, report, review and decision is a person — not a diagnosis, a funding request or a case number.

As DLD Awareness Day approaches, this outcome is an important reminder:
💜 DLD is real.
💜 DLD is lifelong.
💜 DLD can have significant functional impacts.
💜 People with DLD deserve to be seen, heard, understood and appropriately supported.
Today, one young person's disability and support needs have finally been recognised.

And that is absolutely worth celebrating.
DLD. In its own right. 💜

First Aid is a life skill—not just a workplace requirement.

Emergencies can happen anywhere: at home, at work, on the road, or in the community. Knowing what to do in those critical first moments can make a significant difference while waiting for emergency services.

Whether you're a parent, teacher, coach, tradie, office worker, volunteer, or simply someone who wants to be prepared, First Aid training gives you the confidence to act when it matters most.

Our courses are delivered by Nathan Darvill, an experienced trainer of Allen’s Training, and the Director of Expressive Mind Therapy, with a focus on creating a supportive learning environment where practical skills and confidence go hand in hand.

🌴 RESET BALI 2027 — A MEN’S WELLBEING RETREAT 🌴

Breathe. Rest. Reconnect. Return.

What happens when men are given permission to simply stop?

To step away from work.
From responsibility.
From expectations.
From the constant noise of everyday life.

We’re developing something very special.

RESET Bali 2027 will be an intimate, professionally facilitated, alcohol-free men’s wellbeing retreat designed to give men the opportunity to slow down, reconnect with themselves and have conversations that we often don’t make enough time for.

Over several days in beautiful Bali, we’ll bring together:

🧘 Breathwork & meditation
🧠 Practical psychoeducation
💬 Real conversations between men
❤️ Relationships & communication
🌿 Stress, wellbeing & emotional regulation
💪 Movement & physical wellbeing
😴 Rest, recovery & genuine downtime
🎯 Values, purpose & direction
🤝 Connection without judgement
📖 A personal plan for taking the change home

And importantly:

No alcohol. No pressure. No judgement. No pretending.

This isn’t a bootcamp.

It isn’t six days sitting in a therapy room.

And it isn’t about telling men they need to be “fixed”.

It’s about creating a supportive environment where men can breathe, think, learn, laugh, connect, rest and reset.

There will be structured sessions and meaningful conversations, but there will also be plenty of opportunity to experience Bali, enjoy good food, move your body, relax and simply spend time with a small group of men away from the pressures of everyday life.

Our goal is for every participant to return home feeling rested, clearer about what matters, better equipped to navigate life’s challenges and more connected to themselves and the people they care about.

🌴 RESET BALI 2027
Breathe. Rest. Reconnect. Return.

Places will be deliberately limited to maintain a small, supportive and connected group.

💚 Sometimes, changing the question can change the way we understand behaviour.

When behaviour feels challenging, it's natural to ask, “Why are they doing this?”

Positive Behaviour Support encourages us to pause and look deeper:
✨ What might the person be communicating?
✨ What are they experiencing?
✨ Is there something they need?
✨ What skills or support could help?

Instead of focusing only on stopping a behaviour, we can focus on understanding the person behind it and finding meaningful ways to support them.

Because behaviour can tell us something—and every person deserves to be understood. 💚
