Australia's ability to import medicinal cannabis was heavily impacted by Covid-19 this year however, the year won't end how it began.

Developments for the industry include the TGA's response in allowing Australians to obtain low-dose cannabinoid (CBD) oils and pharmacists, while international relations include a cannabis reform in the US. With the reform, the opportunity to support cannabis has begun with Private health insurer HIF, who will pay rebates to its members for medicinal cannabis.

Unlocking local supply is a must for future growth, and will be lucrative when it happens. In 2021, the Australian medicinal cannabis market could reach $150 million, up from $30 million just last year.

For Australia’s cannabis sector, 2021 is looking even better than what it did a few months ago. Some also suffered from COVID-19 restrictions – and not just restrictions on people movements and falling consumer confidence. Tommy Huppert, CEO of cultivator Cannatrek, told Stockhead moving freight...

With the TGA's decision to allow CBD (cannabidiol or cannabis oil) scheduling, we can expect to see OTC brands classified as Schedule 3 substance from 1 June 2021 - a positive outcome for Australians.

Only medicines containing at least 98% CBD and entered on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods will be available over-the-counter.

We look forward to bringing Australians our own OTC brand, launching June 2021.

Over-the-counter access to CBD (cannabidioil) in Australia is one step closer following TGA's latest announcement.

Taking the UK's lead, Australia can learn from ongoing clinical trials into how medicinal cannabis can assist with mental health problems.

One year since UK law changed to enable medical cannabis to be prescribed, researchers are exploring the drug’s potential for treating PTSD and ADHD.

Currently, the strongest evidence for use of medical cannabis is for treatment of intractable seizures in two severe forms of childhood epilepsy, Dravet and Lennox-Gastaut syndromes; chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting; controlling spasticity in multiple sclerosis; and for managing chronic pain.

It is estimated that 1 million people in the UK currently self-medicate with cannabis for a variety of conditions, suggesting there is a demand for its legalisation of various conditions.

PTSD and ADHD are two emerging areas in which medical cannabis is starting to show some promising results, although evidence is still limited and further robust trials are desperately needed.

A Doctor in the United States, Sue Sisley has started clinical trials to determine whether cannabis can be put through the FDA as a botanical product. “It is a new experience for the FDA to work with botanical medicine. We’re trying to persuade it that, [even though the cannabis plant is] green and leafy, it’s still a medicine,” says Sisley.

“The beauty of the cannabis plant is that it’s so complex. There are hundreds of different cannabinoids, terpenoids and flavonoids, all working together synergistically. For the FDA, that’s a different paradigm and we have to bring [the agency] along.”

Clinical trials are being conducted to determine the effectiveness of treating patients with mental health problems.

Part of our mission is to support clinical trials in Australia and prove how medicinal cannabis can support people as the best alternative solution.

Former Australian Footballers to take part in Medicinal Cannabis Trial.

Seven former Australian footballers who suffer from chronic pain are relieved to be taking part in Medicinal Cannabis trial earlier this year. They have previously relied on Opioid prescriptions to assist with their chronic pain.

For Australian ex-football player Ryan Gale, previous years of athletic glory have been replaced by a harsh new reality. Gales lives with chronic pain due to his injuries and required a hip replacement at just 33-years-old.

“I don’t think I ever went one week without pain somewhere,” Gale told 7NEWS.

Now Gale and other ex-athletes are hoping to benefit from a medical cannabis trial that is underway at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne and Emerald Clinics in Perth.

The trials seek to demonstrate the efficacy of medical cannabis for patients who traditionally rely on opioids for chronic pain. Results thus far have proven to show “significant improvement” in pain interference scores, which measures how chronic pain impacts daily functioning.

“It’s so much better than taking some of the other stuff,” he told 7NEWS.

More trials will be taken place this year.

Establishing Social Equity within the Medicinal Cannabis industry.

In a post-Covid world where industries such as hospitality, travel and retail may be seen as risky and unstable, the Medicinal Cannabis sector may pique curiosity to new entrants for those seeking to enter the workforce or career move. This sector will become a new job creation driver for remote non-plant touching roles and professional service providers.

As Cannoil operations builds in Europe and Australia, we seek to proudly and actively champion social equity by hiring and appointing for diversity and inclusion in the office and workplace. Our social equity program encourages candidates and executive teams to apply from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

We believe in building futures both internally, and we look forward to you being apart of our journey.
