Catrina was enjoying a day out with her kids when she started experiencing what she thought was a migraine.

The next morning, while breastfeeding her four-month-old daughter, she collapsed after suffering a stroke caused by a damaged artery in her neck. She was 38 at the time.

For National Stroke Week last week, she shared her remarkable story.

Did you know that up to 80% of strokes are preventable. 🤔

That's a powerful reminder that prevention matters.

Knowing your risk factors, staying active, eating well, managing your blood pressure and making healthy lifestyle choices can all help reduce your risk of stroke.

This National Stroke Week, take one step towards protecting your brain health.💙

Every minute counts when it comes to stroke.

This National Stroke Week, take a moment to learn the signs that could save a life.

Remember F.A.S.T.:
🧠 Face – Has their face drooped?
💪 Arms – Can they lift both arms?
🗣️ Speech – Is their speech slurred or difficult to understand?
📞 Time – Call 000 immediately.

A stroke is a medical emergency. Acting F.A.S.T. can help improve the chance of recovery and reduce the risk of long-term disability.

Share this with your family and friends. You never know when this knowledge could make all the difference.

🫶 Every breakthrough starts with research.

Associate Professor Brenton Hordacre is helping stroke survivors regain movement and independence through innovative rehabilitation research.

His Boot Camp program is investigating a five-week, intensive group-based rehabilitation approach designed to accelerate upper limb recovery after stroke, helping people improve function and get back to the activities that matter most.

Today, we’re celebrating the incredible nurses who care, comfort and change lives every single day. 💜

For International Nurses Day, we asked some of our amazing nurses a few questions.

Their answers are a reminder that nursing is so much more than a profession. It’s care, compassion, showing up for people when they need it most.

Thank you to all nurses for the difference you make every day.

A powerful and deeply important conversation today on aphasia, and the communication challenges faced by people living with stroke and Parkinson’s.

Did you know around 140,000 Australians live with aphasia, a condition that can affect a person’s ability to speak, understand, read or write.

We were honoured to hear from Dean Fyfe and Robert Heddle fromAphasia SA who shared their lived experiences with honesty, insight and heart. Dean spoke about supporting his wife who lives with aphasia, while Bob shared his own journey following two strokes in 2017.

Thank you both for helping shine a light on the realities of aphasia, and the importance of understanding, support and connection in recovery and wellbeing.
