Everyone wants to talk about hormones.

Almost nobody wants to talk about whether they’re actually pooing properly.

And honestly? We’re incredibly grateful that women’s hormones are finally receiving the attention they deserve. For far too long, women were dismissed, ignored, gaslit, handed the pill, or told their symptoms were “normal.”

So it’s powerful that conversations around hormones are finally happening.

But if we’re going to talk about hormones… we also need to talk about poo.

Because one of the most overlooked drivers of hormonal dysfunction in women is poor elimination.

We have somehow created an entire wellness culture obsessed with hormone tests, supplements, powders, detox teas, seed cycling, progesterone creams, and expensive protocols while completely bypassing one of the body’s most basic biological requirements:

The ability to effectively remove waste.

Your bowel is not just a tube that stores p**p. It is one of the body’s major detoxification and hormone-clearing organs.

And beyond that, gut health and bowel health are intricately connected to reproduction and fertility itself.

A congested, inflamed, stagnant digestive system can influence: hormone metabolism, nutrient absorption, inflammation, immune function, nervous system regulation, detoxification, microbial balance, oestrogen clearance, ovulation health and reproductive health

The reproductive system does not operate separately from the gut. They are deeply interconnected.

Every single day, your liver works incredibly hard to process excess hormones, toxins, inflammatory compounds, metabolic waste, old cholesterol metabolites, and environmental chemicals. Once processed, much of this waste is packaged into bile and sent into the digestive tract to be eliminated through the stool.

But here’s the part many women are never told:

The body tries to clear excess hormones, but when constipation, stagnation, and bowel backlog are present, those hormones can be reabsorbed straight back into circulation instead of being properly eliminated.

Read that again!

The body is trying to get rid of them… but sluggish elimination keeps recycling them back through the system.

And here’s something even more important:

Just because you’re pooing every day does not automatically mean you’re eliminating well. Some people are technically “going daily” while still carrying significant stagnation and incomplete evacuation. Because bowel health is not just about how often you p**p. It’s about how WELL you p**p.

We’re talking complete elimination. Easy elimination. The “I feel lighter afterwards” kind of elimination. The poo-euphoric kind of elimination.

Not tiny rabbit pellets, three incomplete bowel motions a day
straining, sitting there for twenty minutes, feeling like more is still inside, relying on coffee to trigger a bowel motion, living with chronic abdominal pressure and stagnation.

Healthy elimination should feel complete, satisfying, and effortless.

Imagine taking your household rubbish out once every four days and expecting the house to still feel fresh.

Poor elimination doesn’t just affect the colon. It can influence the entire internal environment of the body. This is one reason constipation and sluggish elimination may contribute to:

PMS/PMDD
painful periods
breast tenderness
bloating
fluid retention
hormonal acne
headaches
skin issues
fatigue
irritability
sluggishness
inflammatory symptoms
feelings of heaviness within the body
endometriosis
adenomyosis
PMOS (formally known as PCOS)
Infertility
and more

And then there’s the gut bacteria conversation. Some gut bacteria can interfere with hormone elimination. When poo sits in the bowel for too long, these bacteria can reactivate hormones, especially oestrogen, that the body was trying to remove. In simple terms, the body takes the rubbish out… then the bowel pulls it straight back in again.

This is why healthy hormones are not just about producing hormones properly. They are also about clearing them optimally.

At Bottoms Up Colonics, we often see women spending years trying to “fix hormones” while the body is actually screaming for more foundational support:

hydration
minerals
fibre balance
nervous system regulation
movement
digestive support
proper bile flow
improved elimination

Because the body cannot detoxify efficiently if the drainage pathways are congested. And perhaps one of the most confronting parts of this conversation is how many women have normalised dysfunction.

They think:

“I’ve always been constipated.” “I’ve always been bloated.” “I just have bad hormones.” “This is normal for women.”

No!

Common does not mean normal.

The female body was designed to eliminate daily. Comfortably. Completely. Without force.

Not because bowel motions are “just digestion.” But because elimination is deeply tied to detoxification, inflammation, microbial balance, hormone regulation, fertility, reproduction, and whole-body wellbeing.

If you truly want to support hormones, you need to start with the body’s elimination and drainage pathways first, then build from there.

Because maybe you don’t need more hormonal support. Maybe your body is actually asking for better elimination, digestive health, hydration, and bowel function so it can finally do what it has been trying to do all along.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗴𝘂𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗡𝗦𝗔𝗜𝗗𝘀

Most people take anti-inflammatories to reduce pain. Very few realise what they’re reducing along the way.

Inside your body, NSAIDs (like ibuprofen and aspirin) don’t just “switch off inflammation”… they block an enzyme called COX. This enzyme is responsible for turning arachidonic acid into prostaglandins, which are often misunderstood as inflammatory, but in your gut, they are deeply protective.

Prostaglandins help maintain the health of your gut lining. They signal your goblet cells to produce mucin, the gel-like substance that forms your mucus layer.

And that mucus layer?...

It’s your gut’s first line of defence. It separates your intestinal wall from bacteria, toxins, and digestive acids.

So when NSAIDs reduce prostaglandins, something subtle but significant begins to happen.

Goblet cells slow down. Mucin production drops. Your mucus layer thins.

Now your gut lining is more exposed, more reactive, and more vulnerable to irritation and inflammation.

This is where people often begin to notice things like sensitivity, bloating, or ongoing gut dysfunction and many other health issues, without ever linking it back to something as common as an anti-inflammatory.

We’re not saying “never take them.”

But we are saying this... Your gut is not just a passive tube. It’s a living, intelligent barrier that relies on hydration, protection, and communication to function properly.

And when that protective mucus layer is compromised, everything downstream is affected.

If your gut could talk, it wouldn’t just ask what you’re taking. It would ask what you’re losing in the process.

If this resonates, or you’ve been relying on anti-inflammatories long-term, chat with a therapist today to learn how we support the gut lining through Rojas colon hydrotherapy and whole-person care.

11% isn’t just a statistic. It’s a reflection of how we’re living.

In 2021, bowel cancer was responsible for 11% of all cancer-related deaths in Australia. That’s not rare. That’s not unlucky. That’s something we need to start paying attention to.

Because here’s the truth that often gets overlooked: much of this risk is influenced by the way we live. The food we choose. The way we manage stress. The quality of our sleep. The habits we repeat daily, often without questioning them.

This isn’t about fear. It’s about awareness. And more importantly, it’s about responsibility. Your body is not random. It is responsive. It reflects your internal environment, your patterns, your pace, your choices.

At Bottoms Up Colonics, we don’t just focus on physically removing waste. That’s only one piece of the picture. We look at your gut as part of a whole system. Your digestion, your nervous system, your hydration, your lifestyle. Every session is personalised, guided, and designed to support real, lasting change.

Our therapists are not just there to “do a treatment.” They are there to walk alongside you. To guide you. To hold you accountable. To help you understand your body in a way most people never have. They become your therapist, your coach, your advocate, your support system. Because true transformation doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens with education, consistency, and care.

You do not have to become a statistic. But you do have to choose differently. You do have to listen. You do have to act.

If something in your body has been whispering to you, this is your moment to pay attention.

Start the conversation. Ask the questions. Take ownership of your health.

Chat to one of our therapists today about how you can change the trajectory of your life.

Your body does not detox in a state of urgency. It detoxes in a state of safety.

Most people imagine detoxification as something that happens through force: sweating harder, pushing protocols, adding more supplements, trying to “flush” the body faster. But the truth is far more intelligent than that.

The liver does not perform its hundreds of chemical reactions when the body is braced for danger. The lymphatic system does not flow freely when muscles are tight, and breathing is shallow. The gut does not release what it is holding when the nervous system is preparing to fight, run, or survive.

Detoxification is fundamentally a parasympathetic process (rest and digest).
It happens when the body shifts out of vigilance and into restoration. When the breath deepens. When circulation slows. When the nervous system receives the message that it is safe enough to let go.

And in the modern world, this matters more than ever. Human beings evolved in environments with minimal chemical exposure. Today, we live surrounded by synthetic compounds: in our food, water, air, skincare, homes, and clothing. Add to that chronic stress, disrupted sleep, processed foods, and sedentary lifestyles, and it becomes clear that our detoxification systems are now carrying a far heavier load than they were ever designed to manage.

The body still has extraordinary detox pathways: the liver, lymphatic system, colon, kidneys, skin, and lungs. But these systems work best when the nervous system allows them to.
When we are constantly rushed, stimulated, and in survival mode, elimination slows. Waste accumulates. Inflammation increases. The body holds on longer than it should.

This is one of the reasons the Rojas Colon Hydrotherapy method was developed in the way it was.

It is intentionally slow. Gentle. Rhythmic.

The fill and release technique mirrors the natural intelligence of the body rather than overriding it. As filtered and structured water enters the colon slowly and calmly, the nervous system begins to soften. Shoulders drop. Breathing deepens. The body shifts from holding to releasing.

Clients often report feeling calm and relaxed after a session. And that relaxation is not incidental. It is the doorway.

When the parasympathetic nervous system becomes dominant, the colon begins to move more freely, lymphatic drainage improves, and the body starts doing what it has always known how to do — eliminate what no longer belongs.

Detoxification is not something we force.

It is something we allow.

Rojas Colon Hydrotherapy simply creates the conditions where the body can finally do the work it has been waiting to do.
