When you lie on the table and we check your leg length, it might seem like a small thing. It tells us quite a lot.

Leg length discrepancy during assessment isn't always about one leg being physically shorter than the other. More often, it's a functional difference, a sign that the pelvis has shifted, the sacrum is twisted, or spinal tension is pulling unevenly through the body.

The nervous system controls muscle tone throughout the body. When there's interference at a spinal level, the muscles on one side can tighten and effectively draw that side up. Correcting the underlying spinal dysfunction often sees the legs even out, sometimes within the same visit.

It's one of the ways we assess what's happening beyond where you feel it, and why a full structural assessment picks up things that symptoms alone don't reveal.
