I don’t know how to say this gently, as I think that it will raise a few eyebrows. 😳
But if a person is still crying about the same trauma, year after year, then the trauma has not been healed, no matter how long that you have been in therapy.
True healing is not about forgetting about past trauma or doing any level of denial about it. Healing is… being able to come to a point in your life, when you can speak about, and view past hurts, grief and incidents as what has happened to you and not still feel like it sits in your body as a gaping wound. This is emotional imprisonment.
Recently someone told me that they didn’t want to regurgitate all their past trauma, so was not willing to do an interview prior to a Breathing session. Then, told me that they had been in therapy for years! This is very unfortunate for them, because whoever they had been seeing, had not directed them towards total letting go of the associated emotion, thoughts and held trauma. This person was not yet free from pain!
If they had been assisted to heal their past trauma, they would be able to speak freely and easily about everything and anything related to their past, without associated sadness, anger, grief, and re-activation.
Common thoughts on healing are that being “trauma informed” is when a practitioner asks what happened to the client. Suggesting that a client is damaged by a life incident/s is clearly unwise and not ‘Trauma Informed’. Asking a client about their history, is not re-traumatising. However, I do suggest that a person who has been crying for years about the same subject or incident has not been guided to attain peace in their body and mind.
Personally…..I can now speak openly about how both of my parents died, three months apart, when I was 21 years of age. I have been betrayed by friends, and experienced many other life challenges, but none of those past hurts bring me to tears…They’ve been thoroughly viewed, done, and healed.
I’m not special, I just found practitioners who could teach me in safety and love, to let it all go. And Breathe
I just wonder, how many people are seeing practitioners, who don’t go the distance with their clients. Holding the space for people to let it all out and let it go, needs to be practised by qualified practitioners with compassion, strength and trust.
How many therapists are trained to accomplish this level of healing themselves and with others nowadays?
I wonder.
