This is for everyone who’s been feeling exhausted lately.

Especially if you are:
- feeling too busy to rest
- living with chronic illness and fatigue
- balancing the demands of parenting and self care
- feeling helpless seeing current world politics
- giving and giving to everyone around you

This is inspiration for your next yoga practice (don’t forget Savasana afterwards!) 🙏
Rest and enjoy xx

I see you.
I’ve been there.
And I still have to keep reminding myself all the time what a lie it is.

I remember the first time I ever heard someone say,
“Oh [NAME] is so good at yoga!!”

Like… what does that even mean?
What makes someone “good” at yoga?

What your mind automatically goes to in response are things such as how flexible, strong, or good at balancing someone is. Or maybe how many “advanced” postures they can do. Potentially how long they’ve been practicing, how many retreats they’ve been on, or how many views their flows get online.

My mind tells me, in that self critical tone, that I’m not strong or fit enough anymore. That I’m no longer thin enough, or not attractive enough, to be successful at teaching yoga.

Which is all obviously rubbish, because yoga isn’t something you can be “good” or “bad” at,
because YOGA 👏 ISN’T 👏 PERFORMANCE!

If you can do things such as:
- take time out of your hectic life to pause and reflect on how you’re feeling
- set an intention to meet yourself in an asana practice where you’re at, without force, without comparison
- practice the values of patience, reflection, responsiveness > reactivity OFF the mat as well as on it

Then they are the things I care about.

If you have a body, and you can observe your thoughts and breathing,
✨ then you are good enough to do yoga ✨

A HUGE thank you to everyone who has attended a Dynamic Hatha (or Sun Flow) class with me over my 4 years of teaching at Sangha Yoga Studio .studio.wagga 💛

I’ve made the hard decision to put down teaching this class due to ongoing health issues, which have begun to take a toll on my capacity to teach.

Teaching this practice has brought me so much joy, and has consistently been the highlight of my week.

Whether you’ve been once or many times, you have my immense gratitude - gratitude for sharing your practice with me, and for giving me the opportunity to teach it in the first place.

I’ll still be teaching the 6pm Yin Yoga class on Fridays in Term 2. I look forward to seeing you there 🙏🏻✨

Hello friends,

It’s a new year!

The physical yoga practice (asana) we witness in a yoga studio barely touches the surface of what yoga truly is. Yoga is a spiritual practice and a way of life. The container that your yoga teacher provides when you attend a class will shape the experiences you have on the mat, and so sharing a bit about myself only feels right.

Yoga has been in my life for over a decade, and it’s no exaggeration to say I can’t picture what my life would have been like without it. It has held my hand through physical injury, mental health struggles, my teen year, almost all of my 20s now, and more recently through chronic illness and development of physical disability.

What I hope to hold space for in classes are glimpses of what yoga has offered me: opportunity to learn how to be with your body, time to feel it to heal it, a judgement-free space to explore your body’s movement, and practices to nourish & heal your nervous system.

✨ THURSDAY 6-7pm Dynamic Hatha
Dynamic Hatha focuses on working with the energy of:
~ Sun, Yang, uplifting energy
~ Warming, strengthening, balancing
It is a dynamic, strong & balancing practice with the intention of strengthening the body to support the strengthening of the mind. You’ll be provided with options and modifications to meet your body’s needs. We’ll finish with held, restful postures so you leave feeling prepared for a good sleep that night.

💫 FRIDAY 6-7pm Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga focuses primarily on the connective tissues of the body:
~ fascia, tendons & ligaments
~ bones & joints
Through long-held poses on the floor, often 3-5 minutes, there is an emphasis of “letting go” gently in these tissues (rather than seeking to “stretch”). Calming, and a call to cultivate inner awareness, this meditative form of yoga calls you to be more present with self.

🪷 Yoga is a bridge between mind & body, head & heart 🪷

When live in a time where it’s almost impossible to not feel overwhelmed often, and far too easy to distract ourselves from feeling the effects of life’s roller coaster.

Sometimes distraction is okay - at times it’s the most effective tool we have at hand to get through a challenging or high intensity moment.

Turning to distraction all of time though? This develops into avoidance, and in this space nothing can be acknowledged, processed, or healed. It’s really, really heard, but we need to find and create safe spaces where we can slow down, press pause, and tune in to what’s going on internally for us. We need to let ourselves feel what’s going on in order to understand how to resolve it.

✨ Here are 3 ways you can create more presence in your yoga practice to better feel what’s going on for you: ✨

1. When holding a pose, notice when the urge comes up to exit and move on to the next. Rather than rushing out, challenge yourself to stay for 3 more breaths before leaving.
2. The mind likes to distract itself to avoid experiencing discomfort. Next time you go to take a sip of water, scratch an itch, or make an adjustment, ask yourself why. Are you genuinely thirsty, or are you unintentionally distracting yourself from something that’s wanting to rise?
3. DON’T SKIP SAVASANA! Especially if you’re practicing at home, avoid the want to skip Savasana and wrap up your practice early. Even if it’s just 1 minute, make yourself stay. Most of the time, it’s in the staying where the magic rises up.

To assist or to not assist?

If you’ve attended one of my studio classes then you’ll recognise these little guys here, my trusty consent tokens!

To me, these tokens are the heart of teaching of a trauma-sensitive practice. They’re my way of ensuring that you have choice and autonomy in the space, and that you have a way of saying “no” and establishing boundaries without having to actually speak up.

Now don’t get me wrong, I LOVE LOVE LOVE hands on assists and touch. The benefits and purposes behind it are truly endless, but to name a few:
✨ I can help guide your breath and awareness to different places in your body by placing my hands there
✨ Sometimes we don’t realise where we are holding tension, and we need an external cue to bring our attention to it
✨ Sometimes verbal instruction just doesn’t compute, and some hands on guidance is needed
✨A gentle face massage can help quiet a still busy and distracted mind
✨ TOUCH IS HEALING!

But, unfortunately for some of us, touch isn’t a signal of safety. Early on when I began practicing yoga, I think if I had been touched, I wouldn’t have gone back. There are as many reasons for someone to put their token on “No”, as there are for them to choose “Yes”, and ALL of these reasons are VALID.

The key is to have choice and control.
And for anyone who has experienced trauma, it’s highly likely that those two things have been taken away at some stage.
At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how many benefits there are behind receiving physical touch, because if you don’t feel safe, your nervous system isn’t in a state where I can receive any of those benefits anyway. If anything, it might do more harm than good.

Regardless of what you choose, to have choice is empowering! And that’s exactly how I hope you can feel as you join me on the mat - safe, in control, and empowered 💛

14/01/2025

Join me on Saturday 15th Feb at 3:30pm to enjoy a 90minute yoga practice for the heart space.

Emotions such as joy, compassion, creativity and love find their home within the heart. When we become disconnected from this energy centre, we become disconnected from these emotions and the experiences we associate with them. The Heart teaches us how to love others, show compassion, and give loving kindness to those we meet. It also offers up the opportunity to receive this love, compassion and kindness from ourselves. A practice many of us find difficult to dedicate the time and space to.

This workshop holds intention for all those who join to spend time in practice nurturing both the physical and energetic heart space.
You will:
❤️ Enjoy a gentle yoga flow before settling into a cosy yin yoga sequence
❤️ Be offered hands-on assists and reiki throughout the practice
❤️ Spend time in meditation and self-reflection around themes of self-love & acceptance

You are invited to press pause, feel, & simply be.
To give back to yourself. Allow yourself to receive.
To come home to love.
And come home to the heart.

Details:
❤️ When: 3:30-5pm, Saturday 15th February
❤️ Where: .studio.wagga 20 Tompson St, Wagga
❤️ Cost: $35
❤️ Please bring: pen and journal / paper to write on
❤️ Book online: www.sanghastudiowagga.com
