Routines create safety, a sense of knowing what will happen next so children on the Autism Spectrum are calmer. This allows for learning through engagement in learning experiences and routines supporting each child's development.

Each child has their own journey and will learn and grow at their own pace. Many of our boys milestones were much later than their peers but they were still clebrated with great joy and that continues even as they are adults!

"I have no wish to be cured of myself." β€” Temple Grandin

This quote stops me every time.

Temple Grandin is a PhD, author, and one of the most influential voices in autism advocacy β€” and her words are such a powerful reminder of what true inclusion really means. Not fixing. Not changing. Seeing children for exactly who they are, and building environments where they can flourish.

See ability, not disability. πŸ’—

Which quote has stayed with you lately? I'd love to hear it in the comments. πŸ’š

That meltdown you just witnessed? It probably didn't come out of nowhere.
Sensory overload in children often builds quietly β€” and by the time it becomes visible, the nervous system has already been overwhelmed for a while.
Here are 3 signs to look for:
1. They withdraw or shut down β€” going quiet, hiding, refusing to engage
2. They seek intense input β€” crashing into things, spinning, climbing, covering their ears
3. They lash out β€” this is communication, not defiance. Their nervous system is full.

The more we understand what's happening underneath the behaviour, the better we can support these children.

Save this and share it with your team or a fellow parent β€” this kind of knowledge is too important to keep to yourself.
