Is sugar really the devil? 🍭👀

Not quite.

Sugar has become one of the most feared parts of nutrition online, but the reality is a lot more nuanced than the headlines suggest.

Yes, eating large amounts of added sugar regularly can impact health. But having sugar occasionally, enjoying dessert, or adding sugar to your coffee doesn’t automatically make your diet “bad”.

What matters most is the overall pattern of your eating:
✔️ Are you eating enough?
✔️ Are meals balanced?
✔️ Are you getting fibre, protein and variety?
✔️ Is your relationship with food sustainable?

Nutrition isn’t about fearing one ingredient. It’s about context, quantity and consistency over time.

You don’t need to cut sugar out completely to be healthy 💛

Fibre isn’t just about keeping you “regular” 💩

It plays a huge role in:
• Supporting gut health and feeding beneficial gut bacteria
• Helping you feel fuller for longer
• Supporting healthy cholesterol levels
• Assisting with blood sugar regulation
• Promoting long-term heart and metabolic health

Most Australians aren’t getting enough fibre — yet it’s found in so many everyday foods:
🥖 Wholegrains
🫘 Legumes
🍓 Fruit
🥦 Vegetables
🥜 Nuts & seeds

Aim to gradually increase fibre intake and don’t forget fluids too 💧

A healthy gut is about more than just digestion.

Fuelling for a marathon isn’t just about the night before 🏃‍♀️🍌

Your training, recovery, energy levels and race-day performance are all influenced by how you fuel consistently across the week, not just with carb loading.

A few key things marathon runners often overlook:
• Eating enough overall energy to support training
• Prioritising carbohydrates for endurance performance
• Including adequate protein for recovery and muscle repair
• Practising race-day nutrition before the event
• Staying on top of hydration and electrolytes

There’s no one-size-fits-all marathon nutrition plan, but under-fuelling can make training feel harder than it needs to.

Your body can only perform as well as it’s fuelled to 💪

Meet the Team, Peta 💚

Say hello to Peta, Founder and Managing Director of Ingrained Nutrition 👋

Peta founded Ingrained Nutrition in 2009 right here in Wagga Wagga, building the practice from the ground up into the service it is today. Over the past 17 years she has grown a team of passionate dietitians delivering clinic, in-home and telehealth services across NSW and Queensland, supporting clients through everything from everyday nutrition concerns to complex clinical care.

Peta has extensive experience across disability nutrition, NDIS reports and capacity-building plans, PEG and enteral feeding support, aged care menu reviews and community dietetics. She is a passionate advocate for dietetics and is an intergral member and conributor committees and advisory boards in clinical governance for dietetics and the wider allied health community.

She’s also deeply passionate about rural and regional healthcare and works closely with support coordinators, plan managers, care teams and families to deliver collaborative, high-quality care. The sole reason why she has continued supporting the families and communities in the place she grew up in.

Her favourite thing about being part of the team?
Helping the team enjoy their work and grow in their roles, whether that’s dietitians, NDIS support, admin or social media, this is definitely what drives her.

Outside of work, Peta enjoys spending time with her family, including her life-loving foodie daughter and a lively crew of miniature goats and chickens.

We’re lucky to have you boss 💚

Let's bust a few myths. 👇
Some of the most common ones we hear from clients:
"Carbs are bad"
"Sugar is toxic"
"I need to have the perfect body to be healthy"
None of these are true, and honestly, believing them tends to make eating more stressful, not less.
Carbs are a key energy source. Sugar in context isn't the enemy. And health looks different for every single person.
The goal isn't perfection, it's finding an approach that actually works for your life.
If you're tired of second-guessing every food choice, a dietitian can help cut through the noise. Link in bio to book.

Is protein actually that important for weight loss? 🤔
Short answer: yes, but it's not the whole story.
Our dietitian Tracy breaks it down:
🥩 Protein helps protect your lean muscle mass while you're losing weight (which matters more than most people realise)
😌 It's also one of the most satisfying nutrients, meaning it keeps you fuller for longer
🍽️ And when you're trying to eat a little less overall, feeling satisfied goes a long way
The goal isn't to obsess over protein, it's to make sure you're meeting your needs in a way that actually supports your body.
Want to know if you're getting enough? Book in with one of our dietitians for personalised advice. 👇
