💚 A healthier gut might start with something as simple as a green banana. 🍌

Did you know green bananas are naturally rich in resistant starch — a special type of fibre that travels through to the large bowel where it feeds beneficial gut bacteria and helps produce butyrate, an important fuel source for the cells lining your colon?

At Natural Evolution, we’ve spent years working with Australian-grown green bananas and discovering just how remarkable this humble whole food really is. 🌱🇦🇺

We’ve put together a simple article explaining what resistant starch is, why butyrate matters, and what the research actually tells us about gut and bowel health.

👇 Have a read — and please share it with someone who might find this information helpful. Sometimes the simplest foods have the most interesting stories. You can find the link in the comments below.

A banana bunch carries many beautiful meanings, including abundance, prosperity and, most significantly, protection. 🌿✨
This week, we were lucky enough to witness the very beginning of growth from one of our beautiful flowering banana plants. 🌸🍌
As the bunch develops, we get to watch an incredible transformation unfold — revealing gorgeous hues and shades of purple, ruby red and vibrant green, before the familiar green bananas we all know and love emerge. 💜❤️💚
Bananas don’t just amaze us with their natural beauty; they provide nourishment and nutrition that help us thrive. For us, they’re also an important ingredient in creating sustainable, healthy food that fuels our customers and our community. 🌱💚
And here’s an interesting fact: a banana plant isn’t actually a tree — it’s the world’s largest herb! 🌿
Unlike a tree, its “trunk” isn’t woody. Instead, it is made up of tightly wrapped layers of leaf sheaths. Once the plant has flowered and produced its bunch, that main stem eventually dies back, returning nutrients to the soil while new shoots grow and continue the cycle. 🌱🍌
Nature truly has a beautiful way of creating, nourishing and renewing itself. ✨

🌴 TONIGHT on SBS Food — don’t miss the final episode of Taste of the Tropics Season 2: Tropical Innovators airing Thursday 14th May at 7:30pm on SBS Food and SBS On Demand.

We are incredibly proud to see Natural Evolution Foods and our founder Rob Watkins featured among the visionary innovators helping redefine the future of tropical food 🌱

From Far North Queensland to the world, Natural Evolution has spent years challenging what people thought was possible with food innovation — pioneering the world’s first commercial green banana flour and resistant starch ingredients, developing patented Nutrolock™ processing technology, and transforming tropical produce into globally recognised functional health ingredients.

What started with a simple idea — reducing food waste and creating better nutrition from overlooked produce — has grown into a movement in functional food science, gut health innovation, sustainable agriculture and advanced food manufacturing.

Tonight’s episode celebrates the growers, scientists, inventors and changemakers proving that tropical ingredients can help shape the future of food, health and sustainability worldwide.

A huge congratulations to the incredible production team behind this beautiful series and to all the innovators featured alongside us.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mums out there — what a good bunch you are 💚🍌

Here’s a little fun fact for your Sunday… did you know banana plants are basically all female? Yep! The banana “tree” is actually a giant herb, and the bananas grow from the female flowers 🌼

And honestly, bananas are a fair bit like mums when you think about it:
✨ They spend their lives feeding everyone else
✨ They keep things growing strong and healthy
✨ They quietly hold the whole show together
✨ And they’re always giving more than they take

Even better — banana plants send up little “daughters” from around the mother plant, growing the next generation while staying all connected underneath the ground. Sounds a bit like families doesn’t it 💚

Nature’s pretty clever sometimes.

Wishing all the mums, grandmas, step mums and mother figures out there a beautiful Mother’s Day. Hope someone’s making you a cuppa and letting you put your feet up today 🌸

✨ Why Green Banana Antioxidants Are Different

Green bananas aren’t “supreme” because they top a chart.

They’re supreme because of how they work in the human body.

Here’s what makes them unique 👇

⸻

1️⃣ Dopamine (Not the Brain Kind!)

Green bananas are naturally rich in plant dopamine — a powerful antioxidant.

✔️ It neutralises free radicals
✔️ Protects gut cells from oxidative stress
✔️ Is partially absorbed and also transformed by gut microbes

That means protection both in the gut and systemically.

⸻

2️⃣ A Two-Stage Antioxidant System

Green bananas contain RS2 resistant starch.

Instead of just delivering antioxidants…
they activate your gut to make more.

Resistant starch feeds beneficial bacteria →
Those bacteria produce butyrate, a potent anti-inflammatory compound.

So you get:

1️⃣ Direct antioxidant protection (dopamine + polyphenols)
2️⃣ Indirect antioxidant amplification (via butyrate production)

Very few foods do both.

⸻

3️⃣ Preserved Polyphenols

As bananas ripen, many protective compounds decline.

Green bananas retain higher concentrations of polyphenols that help:

✔️ Reduce intestinal oxidative stress
✔️ Support liver detox pathways
✔️ Protect against blood sugar-related oxidative damage

⸻

4️⃣ Slow, Sustained Protection

Many high-antioxidant fruits deliver a quick spike… then they’re metabolised and gone.

Green banana resistant starch creates a gradual release effect via gut fermentation — meaning longer-lasting support.

⸻

✅ The Real Advantage

Green bananas don’t just contain antioxidants.

They:

• Work directly AND indirectly
• Activate the gut microbiome
• Support colon health
• Help regulate inflammation
• Provide sustained antioxidant activity

It’s not about highest numbers.
It’s about smarter biology.

Resistant starch is having a real moment right now — and honestly, that’s great news 🙌

Resistant Starch is one of the most under-consumed fibres in modern diets.

If you’re serious about your health…
Serious about your gut…
Serious about giving your body what it actually needs to function, repair and thrive…

You simply can’t look past green banana resistant starch. Here’s the reality 👇

Yes, you can get resistant starch from cooked and cooled rice, pasta, potatoes, beans, oats or even frozen bread…

But to reach a clinically meaningful amount?
You’d be eating multiple bowls of those foods every single day — along with a load of extra carbohydrates and calories you may not actually need.

Or…

You can take one tablespoon of green banana resistant starch.

✔ In water
✔ In juice
✔ In your smoothie
✔ Sprinkled over cereal

And you’re done.

One tablespoon delivers your full daily serve of resistant starch — clean, simple, efficient.

We were the team who first brought green banana resistant starch to the world and pioneered its use as a functional prebiotic fibre. This isn’t a trend for us. It’s what we’ve been educating, researching and creating the best for almost 20 years.

If your microbiome matters to you, this is foundational.

Simple. Effective. Proven.

✨ It’s been another EPIC week here at Natural Evolution!

At one point this week, we were receiving more orders in ONE hour than what we used to receive in an entire week. Wild.

And yes — that can happen when we’re super active on socials…
But the funny thing is? We’ve actually been pretty quiet lately.

That’s because we’ve been busy where it matters most — putting our energy into making our incredible product. Researching. Refining. Producing. Packing. Doing the work.

But this week felt different.

All the years of discovery and research around resistant starch are finally hitting the mainstream. The conversations are growing. The science is coming forward. And people are starting to understand just how powerful this humble ingredient really is.

Resistant starch has been shown to support gut health in profound ways — and emerging research is highlighting its role in protecting the digestive system, even reducing the risk of certain cancers.

We started this revolution completely by accident (if you know our story, you know… and if you don’t, that’s for another day 😉).

But what we DO know is this:
We produce the highest natural resistant starch in the world.

So if you’re not on it yet — get on it.

Give your body the nourishment it needs to heal, restore and keep you thriving.
