Why would you choose an independent hearing clinic over a multinational chain?

Well, we are local - we live locally and we know our community and their needs. We've lived through Newcastle's challenges - the 1989 earthquake, east coast lows, flooding, and Covid lockdowns. Our kids have grown up here and now our grandchildren are following in their footsteps. We know what makes Newcastle people tick.

We view you as an individual, so we will find the best hearing aid for your hearing needs.

We have worked for 30 years in the hearing industry, so you can feel confident that our advice is based on our strong professional knowledge.

As an independent clinic, we don't work on commissions, so we can fit all brands of hearing aids. We are friendly and caring, and we understand that hearing loss can be frustrating and isolating.

Cheap online ear wax removal products look like a simple solution that can be used at home. Generally, they are battery powered and appear to do some magical tricks in removing ear wax.

However, while you might think you have a steady hand and impeccable eyesight, the risk of permanently damaging your ear drum when removing ear wax with one of these gadgets, is high. It is not worth it.

We can help!!

We offer gentle, microsuction ear wax removal by trained clinicians.

If you feel like you have a full ear canal and have noticed a decline in your hearing, please make an appointment to see us.

October is National Safe Work Month.

Did you know? Hearing damage can occur when a person is exposed to noise that is too loud for too long. Hearing loss can be temporary or permanent and can get worse over time.

The risk of noise related injury increases depending on how loud the noise is and how long a person is exposed. The workplace exposure standard for noise states workers must not be exposed to noise above 85 decibels (as an average) over 8 hours at work. As a guide, machines like lawnmowers and leaf blowers are around 85 decibels.

For every 3 decibels increase in the noise level, the amount of time a worker can be exposed before hearing damage occurs halves. For example, at an average noise level of 88 decibels a worker can only be exposed for 4 hours.
As a good rule of thumb, if you must raise your voice to talk to someone who is a metre away, you are likely being exposed to hazardous noise levels.

Acoustic trauma is immediate and permanent hearing loss which occurs when a person is exposed to noise greater than 140 decibels. This is often the result of sudden bursts of noise such as noise from a sledgehammer.

Noise can damage your hearing if it’s too loud. Both sudden, loud noises, like an explosion, and constant, loud noise, like working near industrial machinery, can damage your hearing.

Hearing damage includes permanent or temporary hearing loss and tinnitus (ringing in the ears). And it's not just people working in areas such as construction who can be affected by industrial deafness - hospitality workers, musicians and hairdresser can be exposed to ongoing high noise levels.

If you feel you or someone you know has been affected by exposure to workplace noise, please make a hearing appointment with us. 02 4023 2055 or visit our clinic Shop 4 Dan Rees Street Wallsend.

Too much noise at work can lead to temporary or permanent hearing loss, or tinnitus – ringing in the ears. Damage can occur gradually, from extended exposure to noise or immediately, from exposure to a sudden explosive sound.

There is strong evidence indicating that exposure to vibration and ototoxins can exacerbate the effects of noise on hearing. Workers who are exposed to noise and vibration or ototoxins together may be more likely to suffer from hearing loss.

In workplaces containing hard, non-absorbent surfaces, the workplace noise level may be increased from reverberated sound. Examples of non-absorbent surfaces include concrete, marble, wood, tiles, floors, walls, ceilings and other equipment.

If you have worked in a noisy environment and feel that you may have a hearing loss, please make an appointment to talk to our industrial deafness specialist on 02 40232055 or visit: www.localhearingaidspecialists.com.au
